Epidemiology, Comorbidities, and Prescription Patterns of Korean Prurigo Nodularis Patients: A Multi-Institution Study

Yu-Ri Woo et al.

Summary: This study examined the epidemiology, comorbidities, and prescription patterns of Prurigo nodularis (PN) in Koreans. The results showed that PN was associated with various comorbidities including chronic kidney disease, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, autoimmune thyroiditis, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and atopic dermatitis. Topical steroids and oral antihistamines were commonly prescribed for PN treatment.

Comparison of transepidermal water loss and skin hydration in diabetics and nondiabetics

C. C. K. Lai et al.

Summary: The study found no significant differences in transepidermal water loss and skin hydration between patients with diabetes mellitus and controls. However, factors such as uncontrolled fasting blood sugar and peripheral neuropathy were associated with reduced skin hydration in diabetic patients, while higher insulin requirements were related to increased transepidermal water loss.

Prevalence of comorbidities in atopic dermatitis and psoriasis in the French population

M. -A. Richard et al.

Summary: This study examined the prevalence of atopic dermatitis (AD) and psoriasis (Pso) among the French population, along with associated comorbidities. It found that AD and Pso patients have higher rates of certain comorbidities compared to those without these conditions. More research is needed to further explore the comorbidities associated with AD and Pso, as well as to identify risk factors and develop targeted therapies.

Tissue-resident macrophage inflammaging aggravates homeostasis dysregulation in age-related diseases

Ziqi Yue et al.

Summary: Tissue-resident macrophages isolated from aged animals or patients show alterations that are closely associated with age-related diseases, leading to inflammaging and chronic diseases. These defects contribute to a loss of tissue-repair capacity and a senescence-associated secretory phenotype in cells.

c-Myc Upregulated by High Glucose Inhibits HaCaT Differentiation by S100A6 Transcriptional Activation

Jie Zhang et al.

Summary: Dysfunction in keratinocyte differentiation in diabetic skin is closely related to the overexpression of c-Myc and S100A6, with potential mechanisms including activation of the WNT/beta-catenin pathway and direct regulation of S100A6 expression. These findings suggest that c-Myc and S100A6 may be potential targets for the treatment of chronic diabetic wounds.

Hallmarks of Aging in Macrophages: Consequences to Skin Inflammaging

Gabriela Rapozo Guimaraes et al.

Summary: Skin aging is a complex process influenced by various factors, leading to changes such as reduced cellular proliferation and alterations in the extracellular matrix. Macrophages (M phi) play a crucial role in skin homeostasis and host defense, but they have also been implicated in chronic inflammation during aging. Targeting M phi may offer potential therapeutic interventions for inflammatory skin disorders and cancer.

Differences in the mechanism of type 1 and type 2 diabetes-induced skin dryness by using model mice

Tsuneki Horikawa et al.

Summary: The study revealed that skin hydration decrease in type 1 diabetes model mice was associated with factors such as advanced glycation end products and matrix metalloproteinase-9, while skin dryness in type 2 diabetes model mice was mainly linked to the release of histamine and hyaluronidase by mast cells, leading to a decrease in hyaluronic acid. In non-obesity type 2 diabetes model mice, the increase in inflammatory cytokines potentially disrupts skin collagen. Each mouse model exhibited skin dryness induced by diabetes, with varying mechanisms depending on the type of diabetes.
