Aeromagnetic and Landsat-8 data interpretation for structural and hydrothermal alteration mapping along the Central and Southern Eastern Desert boundary, Egypt

Safwat S. Gabr et al.

Summary: The article discusses the mapping of structural elements and hydrothermal alteration zones related to gold mineralization using aeromagnetic and remote sensing imagery data. The study identifies the main trends controlling gold mineralization and detects alteration minerals associated with hydrothermal fluids. The research findings have implications for gold mineralization prediction and exploration.

Formation of gold-bearing listvenite in the mantle section of the Neoproterozoic Bir Umq ophiolite, Western Arabian Shield, Saudi Arabia

Hisham A. Gahlan et al.

Summary: Serpentinized peridotite and associated listvenites of Neoproterozoic age are found in western Saudi Arabia. The serpentinized peridotite indicates a strongly depleted mantle protolith, typically associated with subduction zone environments. The listvenites, developed by alteration of serpentinized peridotite, are divided into carbonate listvenite and silica-carbonate listvenite. The mineralized silica-carbonate listvenite is enriched in fluid-mobile elements and gold, suggesting a separate fluid infiltration event.

Ultramafic Rocks and Their Alteration Products From Northwestern Allaqi Province, Southeastern Desert, Egypt: Petrology, Mineralogy, and Geochemistry

A. M. Abdel-Rahman et al.

Summary: The study focuses on ultramafic rocks and their hydrothermal alteration, particularly on listwaenites and talc-carbonate rocks. It reveals the presence of gold and classifies the ultramafic rocks as SSZ ophiolites formed in the forearc peridotite tectonic environment. This research is significant for understanding the rock types and mineral resources in the area.

Exploring mineralization zones using remote sensing and aeromagnetic data, West Allaqi Area, Eastern-Desert, Egypt

Ahmed ElGalladi et al.

Summary: Using Landsat-8 and aeromagnetic data, this study successfully delineated new gold and mineralization potential zones in the Wadi-Allaqi district of the Eastern Desert of Egypt. Through remote sensing techniques and analysis of aeromagnetic data, alteration zones and different geological units were identified, and the pathways of ascending hydrothermal fluids and the main trends of dominant structural systems were revealed.

Gold-bearing listwaenites in ophiolitic ultramafics from the Eastern Desert of Egypt: Subduction zone-related alteration of Neoproterozoic mantle?

Mohamed M. Hamdy et al.

Summary: Dike-like variable listwaenites with significant Au have been exposed in serpentinite fault zones in Um Khasila-Um Huweitat (Kh-H) and Malo Grim (MG) areas of Egypt's Eastern Desert. The different types and formation processes of the serpentinites in these areas have resulted in variations in the elemental content of the mineralized veins. The Kh-H serpentinites have been influenced by fluids from continental crust, leading to the formation of K2O-rich carbonate listwaenite, while the MG serpentinites have primarily been affected by the carbonation process, resulting in silica-rich carbonate listwaenite.

Integration of Landsat 8, gravity, and field data for exploration of gold mineralization in Gamba District, Northern Cameroon

Yanick Blaise Ketchaya et al.

Summary: Remote sensing is a powerful tool used in mineral exploration to identify geological structures and alteration zones associated with mineralization. This study in the Pan-African belt of Cameroon demonstrates the effectiveness of combining Landsat 8 imagery with gravity and field data to map potential gold resources in deep weathering areas.

Investigating the capabilities of multispectral remote sensors data to map alteration zones in the Abhar area, NW Iran

Yousef Bahrami et al.

Summary: This study investigated the capabilities of ASTER, Landsat-8, and Sentinel-2 data to map iron oxide and hydrothermally alteration zones. The results showed that ASTER data provided better performance in detecting hydrothermally alterations compared to Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2. However, all data types performed similarly in the detection of iron oxide zones.
