Expanding or shrinking? range shifts in wild ungulates under climate change in Pamir-Karakoram mountains, Pakistan

Hussain Ali et al.

Summary: This study investigated the populations of Himalayan ibex and blue sheep in the Pamir-Karakoram mountains to understand their distribution shifts under climate change scenarios and predict future habitats. Results indicated that both species currently have suitable habitats in about 37% and 9% of the study area, but they are projected to lose significant parts of their habitats under changing climate scenarios. The Pamir-Karakoram ranges are expected to serve as climate refugia for both species, highlighting the importance of conservation efforts in this region for Pakistan's mountain ungulates.

Rapid shifts in Arctic tundra species' distributions and inter-specific range overlap under future climate change

Floris M. van Beest et al.

Summary: The study found that Arctic birds and mammals are projected to shift their distribution ranges northward and upwards under future climate conditions, with potential increases in inter-specific overlap. This indicates that climate change is significantly impacting the Arctic region.

The impact of climate change on western Plethodon salamanders' distribution

Sir Nottingham et al.

Summary: This study investigated the ecological responses of Plethodon species in the Pacific Northwest to climate change, finding that precipitation strongly influences species distribution. Despite potential fluctuations in climatically suitable habitat for individual species, the overall distribution of the group is unlikely to be significantly impacted. Grouping species into lineages with similar geographic ranges can be an effective strategy for determining conservation needs.
