Pregnancy outcomes in women with neurofibromatosis 1: a Danish population-based cohort study

Line Kenborg et al.

Summary: The cumulative incidence of a first pregnancy at age 50 was slightly lower in women with NF1 compared to the population comparison, but the hazard of pregnancy was similar between the two groups after adjusting for potential medical consequences of NF1. Women with NF1 had higher rates of spontaneous abortions and stillbirths compared to the population comparison.

A rare disease and education: Neurofibromatosis type 1 decreases educational attainment

Edvard Johansson et al.

Summary: NF1 is associated with reduced educational attainment, with individuals more likely to pursue vocational education. History of cancer and developmental disorders are major predictors of lack of secondary education. NF1 decreases the attainment of Bachelor's and Master's degrees.

Psychiatric disorders in individuals with neurofibromatosis 1 in Denmark: A nationwide register-based cohort study

Line Kenborg et al.

Summary: NF1 patients have higher risks of psychiatric disorders in childhood and early adulthood, particularly in developmental disorders and emotional/behavioral disorders. However, the risks of psychoses, schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, and substance abuse are similar between NF1 patients and the population comparisons.

Revised diagnostic criteria for neurofibromatosis type 1 and Legius syndrome: an international consensus recommendation

Eric Legius et al.

Summary: The study revised the diagnostic criteria for neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) and established criteria for Legius syndrome (LGSS) by combining major developments in genetics, ophthalmology, dermatology, and neuroimaging. Consensus on minimal clinical and genetic criteria for diagnosing and differentiating NF1 and LGSS was reached, with recommendations for mosaic forms of these conditions. Continued refinement of these new criteria will be necessary to study their diagnostic properties, reconsider criteria not included, and identify new features of the conditions, hence proposing an initiative to periodically update the diagnostic criteria for NF1 and LGSS.
