Identifying brain functional connectivity alterations during different stages of Alzheimer's disease

Hessam Ahmadi et al.

Summary: The study aimed to analyze the changes in the functional connectivity during different stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The results showed that the first stage of AD is characterized by functional connectivity alterations, mainly in the default mode network (DMN). The anterior and posterior cingulum areas of the DMN were the first regions affected, followed by a decline in functional connectivity in the frontal superior medial region. Whole-brain alterations were not significant within one year.

Using high spatial resolution fMRI to understand representation in the auditory network

Michelle Moerel et al.

Summary: This review highlights the advantages of using ultra-high field MRI in investigating the human auditory system, specifically its ability to study the representation of sound across auditory brain regions and to localize the primary auditory cortex in individual hemispheres. Furthermore, the access to independent signals across auditory cortical depths may lead to a better understanding of the computations underlying the emergence of abstract sound representations. Challenges and promises of studying these research questions using UHF MRI are also discussed, along with a future outlook.

Dynamic Changes of Brain Networks during Working Memory Tasks in Schizophrenia

Rong Yao et al.

Summary: This research aims to distinguish brain functional networks of schizophrenia patients from healthy participants during working memory tasks using a method involving microstates. Results show decreased neuronal activity in certain brain regions of schizophrenia patients. The use of microstates significantly reduces the time needed to construct brain functional networks.

Finding New Communities: A Principle of Neuronal Network Reorganization in Alzheimer's Disease

Anna Weller et al.

Summary: The study revealed a reorganization of functional connectome communities in Alzheimer's disease patients, resulting in lower overall efficiency and higher tau pathology burden in nodes tending to leave communities. This suggests a correlation between local tau pathology in AD and fundamental changes in basic organizational principles of the human connectome.

Diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease Using Brain Network

Ramesh Kumar Lama et al.

Summary: Recent studies suggest that impairment in brain functional connectivity is an early event in Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment. This study presents a new diagnostic approach using graph theory features from functional magnetic resonance images to classify AD, MCI, and healthy control subjects, with SVM and LASSO feature selection method showing superior classification accuracy.
