Cholesterol-Induced Phenotypic Modulation of Smooth Muscle Cells to Macrophage/Fibroblast-like Cells Is Driven by an Unfolded Protein Response

Abhijnan Chattopadhyay et al.

Summary: The study found that vascular smooth muscle cells undergo phenotypic switching and express macrophage and fibroblast markers under cholesterol exposure. This switching is associated with the activation of the endoplasmic reticulum unfolded protein response, and blocking this response prevents the phenotypic transition.

Dietary Oxysterol, 7-Ketocholesterol Accelerates Hepatic Lipid Accumulation and Macrophage Infiltration in Obese Mice

Jiuyang Chang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that a small amount of dietary 7KC contributed to accelerate hepatic steatosis and inflammation in obese mice models, characterized by increased lipid accumulation, macrophage infiltration, induced inflammatory response, downregulated fatty acid oxidation, and reduced expression of genes related to autophagy process.

Nanoparticle-Mediated Simultaneous Targeting of Mitochondrial Injury and Inflammation Attenuates Myocardial Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury

Summary: The study showed that dual deficiency of CypD and C-C chemokine receptor 2 enhanced cardioprotection during myocardial IR injury. Deletion of C-C chemokine receptor 2 decreased monocyte recruitment, whereas deletion of CypD reduced it with interleukin-1 beta blocking antibody. Combined administration of nanoparticles targeting mitochondrial injury and inflammation improved cardioprotection compared to single administration.
