Anti-adipogenic signals at the onset of obesity-related inflammation in white adipose tissue

Tiziana Caputo et al.

Summary: Chronic inflammation in metabolic organs, such as white adipose tissue, is a major factor in obesity-related health issues. High-fat diets trigger different responses in visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue, with the former experiencing limited expansion due to antiadipogenic signals and the latter allowing storage of excessive fatty acids. Differential regulation of adipocyte number and differentiation in response to obesogenic stimuli plays a crucial role in the susceptibility to obesity-related inflammation between visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue depots.

Changes in Biceps femoris Transcriptome along Growth in Iberian Pigs Fed Different Energy Sources and Comparative Analysis with Duroc Breed

Rita Benitez et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of developmental stage, breed, and diet energy source on the genome-wide expression, meat quality traits, and tissue composition of biceps femoris muscle in growing pure Iberian and Duroc pigs. Results showed significant transcriptome changes along time in Iberian animals related to growth and tissue development, while breed differences were observed in functions related to muscle development and cytoskeleton organization.

EPHX1 mutations cause a lipoatrophic diabetes syndrome due to impaired epoxide hydrolysis and increased cellular senescence

Jeremie Gautheron et al.

Summary: Epoxide hydrolases play a crucial role in regulating cellular homeostasis by hydrolyzing epoxides to diols. Mutations in the EPHX1 gene can lead to protein aggregation and loss of activity, resulting in lipoatrophic diabetes. Knockout of EPHX1 affects adipocyte differentiation, insulin response, oxidative stress, and cellular senescence. Metreleptin therapy shows promising effects in patients with EPHX1 mutations.

Signaling defects associated with insulin resistance in nondiabetic and diabetic individuals and modification by sex

Nida Haider et al.

Summary: Insulin resistance is prevalent in one-quarter of the general population, with notable differences in the phosphoproteome between men and women. These cell-autonomous signaling alterations associated with insulin resistance contribute to differences in physiology and disease between the sexes.

Down-regulation of ACACA suppresses the malignant progression of Prostate Cancer through inhibiting mitochondrial potential

Hui Zhang et al.

Summary: The ACACA gene is strongly expressed in prostate cancer tissues and higher in advanced stages. Knocking down the ACACA gene reduces proliferation ability in cells and leads to lower tumor volume and weight in vivo. Suppression of ACACA results in decreased mito-ATP production, mtDNA levels, and MitoTracker staining, while increasing NAD+/NADH ratio and ROS levels. Targeting ACACA gene and mitochondria may be a novel therapy for prostate cancer treatment.
