Observational study on fluid therapy management in surgical adult patients

Summary: The study investigated perioperative fluid therapy management in 131 Spanish hospitals, including 7291 patients. Balanced crystalloids were the most commonly used fluid, with colloids used in a small number of patients. Hourly surgical volume tended to be more restrictive in high-risk patients, but there was a high degree of variation in the overall volume administered perioperatively and scarce monitoring was observed.
