Metal-organic framework-derived NaMnxOy hexagonal microsheets for superior adsorptive-oxidative removal of hydrogen sulfide in ambient conditions

Nishesh Kumar Gupta et al.

Summary: The fabrication of NaMnxOy from air calcination of (Na, Mn)-organic frameworks has been reported. The hexagonal microsheets of NaMnxOy were formed regardless of the type of organic linker or MOF morphology. The adsorption capacity of NaMnxOy was significantly higher compared to the precursor MOF, with the best adsorbent showing maximum capacity in wet and dry conditions.

Sulfur dioxide gas adsorption over ZnO/Zn-based metal-organic framework nanocomposites

Nishesh Kumar Gupta et al.

Summary: In this study, ZnO/Zn-MOF nanocomposites were synthesized by a rapid sonication method, with ZnO nanoparticles dispersed over the MOF surface. The nanocomposites exhibited a surface area in the range of 12.4-20.6 m(2) g(-1). It was found that these nanocomposites showed efficient adsorption capacity for SO2 removal at ambient temperature, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 31.0 mg g(-1). The adsorption capacity decreased with increasing temperature due to the removal of water and molecular oxygen, which were necessary for SO2 oxidation.

DFT investigation of H2S and SO2 adsorption on Zn modified MoSe2

Ahmad I. I. Ayesh

Summary: This study investigates the adsorption of H2S and SO2 molecules on MoSe2 structures, with and without Zn doping, using density functional theory. The results show that Zn doping enhances the adsorption of both H2S and SO2 on MoSe2, with higher sensitivity observed for H2S gas. This study suggests that Zn-doped MoSe2 structures may be suitable for sensitive detection of H2S gas.

Metal-organic framework-derived NaMxOy adsorbents for low-temperature SO2 removal

Nishesh Kumar Gupta et al.

Summary: This study reported the fabrication of NaMxOy-type adsorbents from air calcination of (Na, M)-trimesate metal organic frameworks and tested their potential for low-temperature SO2 removal. The results showed that NMO and NCO adsorbents had good adsorption capacity for SO2 and the capacity increased with temperature, bed loading, and decreased flow rate. Elemental mapping and X-ray analysis confirmed the absence of metal sulfate nanoparticles in SO2-exposed samples and the formation of surface sulfate and bisulfate.

On the wrong assignment of the XPS O1s signal at 531-532 eV attributed to oxygen vacancies in photo- and electro-catalysts for water splitting and other materials applications

Hicham Idriss

Summary: The XPS O1s signal mistakenly attributed to oxygen vacancies is actually due to the adsorption of water molecules on the oxide surface under ambient conditions. Surface oxygen vacancies in binary or mixed metal oxide materials or catalysts will be oxidized instantly due to the strong adsorption energy of water, making it impossible for ex-situ measurements.

Summary: Marine transport plays a significant role in air pollution in the transportation sector, and the development of strict emission regulations and reduction technologies are crucial for reducing ship emissions. Marine alternative fuels, such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), show promise as a way to reduce pollutants from marine diesel engines.

Iron-organic frameworks-derived iron oxide adsorbents for hydrogen sulfide removal at room temperature

Nishesh Kumar Gupta et al.

Summary: Iron-based MOFs were synthesized through sonication of organic linkers with freshly prepared iron hydroxide, serving as templates for iron oxide adsorbents after calcination. The adsorbents exhibited significant adsorption capacity for H2S removal, with iron terephthalate MOF-derived iron oxide showing the highest capacity. The spent adsorbent was regenerated by NH4OH to produce ammonium sulfate, providing a novel method to convert waste into value-added products.

A novel one-step synthesis of Ce/Mn/Fe mixed metal oxide nanocomposites for oxidative removal of hydrogen sulfide at room temperature

Nishesh Kumar Gupta et al.

Summary: This study synthesized CeO2/Fe2O3, CeO2/Mn2O3, and CeO2/Mn2O3/Fe2O3 nanocomposites by calcination of molten salt solutions, demonstrating polyhedral nanocrystals clustered to form nanospheres. The nanocomposites showed efficient adsorption capacity for hydrogen sulfide gas at room temperature, with CeO2/Mn2O3/Fe2O3 exhibiting the highest recorded maximum adsorption capacity. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis revealed the presence of sulfate as the only product formed from the oxidation of H2S at room temperature over the mixed metal composites.
