Elaboration and properties of a new SDS/CTAB@Montmorillonite organoclay composite as a superb adsorbent for the removal of malachite green from aqueous solutions

Redouane Haounati et al.

Summary: The SDS/CTAB@Mt composite, prepared through the synergistic effect of CTAB and SDS, showed a highly negatively charged surface and good adsorption properties for malachite green. The adsorption process followed the Langmuir model and pseudo-second-order kinetics, with a maximum adsorbed amount of 1021.45 mg/g. Thermodynamic parameters indicated that the adsorption of malachite green onto the composite was spontaneous, exothermic, and led to a decrease in randomness of adsorbed molecules.

Determining the bound water content of montmorillonite from molecular simulations

Siqi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the properties of bound water in clay, proposing a viewpoint on the boundary of bound water and using molecular dynamics to determine its thickness in Na-montmorillonite. The research also investigates the physical properties of bound water and introduces an application for predicting the hydraulic conductivity of clay.

Highly efficient and fast batch adsorption of orange G dye from polluted water using superb organo-montmorillonite: Experimental study and molecular dynamics investigation

Hassan Ouachtak et al.

Summary: Natural montmorillonite is modified with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) to obtain an organoclay, which is used as an adsorbent for the removal of orange G anionic dye from aqueous solutions. The adsorption process follows a pseudo-second-order kinetic model and a Langmuir model, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 167 mg g(-1) at 298 K. Molecular dynamics simulations provide insight into the structural properties of the CTAB intercalated into montmorillonite and the adsorptive characteristics of orange G dye on CTAB@Mt.
