Optomechanical dissipative solitons

Jing Zhang et al.

Summary: The observation of mechanical micro-solitons excited by optical fields in an optomechanical microresonator has opened up new possibilities for optomechanical technologies. By balancing optomechanical nonlinearities with a tailored modal dispersion, stable, dissipative optomechanical solitons have been realized in a whispering gallery mode resonator.

Diffractive saturable loss mechanism in Kerr-lens mode-locked lasers: direct observation and simulation

Idan Parshani et al.

Summary: The study explores the role of diffraction losses in Kerr-lens mode-locking, revealing that the instantaneous saturable absorber generated through diffraction depends on the spatial and temporal profiles of the pulse. Despite their importance, these losses have never been directly observed.

Weak beam self-cleaning of femtosecond pulses in the anomalous dispersion regime

Yuhang Wu et al.

Summary: Experiments were conducted on Kerr beam cleaning in graded-index multimode fiber with sub-nanosecond and femtosecond pulses at wavelengths characterized by normal dispersion. Weak beam cleaning was observed experimentally, with strong temporal evolution of the pulse. Numerical simulations qualitatively matched the experimental trends.

Spontaneous symmetry breaking of dissipative optical solitons in a two-component Kerr resonator

Gang Xu et al.

Summary: Researchers observed spontaneous symmetry breaking of dissipative optical solitons in a nonlinear optical ring resonator, leading to the coexistence of distinct vectorial solitons with asymmetric polarization states. By perturbing the system, deterministic switching between the two symmetry-broken dissipative soliton states can be achieved. This work provides fundamental insights into multi-mode nonlinear optical resonators, dissipative structures, and spontaneous symmetry breaking in coherently driven Kerr resonators.
