Streptomyces coelicolor Vesicles: Many Molecules To Be Delivered

Teresa Faddetta et al.

Summary: This study investigated the production and characterization of membrane vesicles (MVs) in Streptomyces coelicolor M145. The MVs were found to contain various proteins and metabolites, including those involved in cell metabolism/differentiation, molecular processing/transport, and stress response. Additionally, the MVs contained a range of metabolites, such as antibiotics, vitamins, amino acids, and components of carbon metabolism. These findings provide valuable insights into the biogenesis and functions of MVs.

Pinar Aytar Celik et al.

Summary: Bacterial membrane vesicles (BMVs) are cupped-shaped structures formed by bacteria in response to stress and genetic alteration, with potential applications in drug and vaccine development. They can retain specific characteristics and carry molecules over long distances without changes in concentration.

Dinoroseobacter shibae Outer Membrane Vesicles Are Enriched for the Chromosome Dimer Resolution Site dif

Hui Wang et al.

Summary: Outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) secreted by Dinoroseobacter shibae during cell division contain DNA enriched for specific gene regions, potentially repaired from overreplication. The vesicle proteome includes proteins interacting with peptidoglycan during division. The FtsK-dif-XerC/XerD molecular machinery may provide a novel route for DNA incorporation into OMVs.

Competition Sensing Changes Antibiotic Production in Streptomyces

Sanne Westhoff et al.

Summary: Bacteria compete for resources and space by producing antibiotics that inhibit competitors, with antibiotic production influenced by social cues and resource limitation. Antibiotic production is more likely to be induced by cues from closely related strains or those sharing biosynthetic gene clusters, but not by competitors that inhibit growth. Cells often reduce antibiotic production in the presence of competitors, especially under nutrient limitation, highlighting the regulation of antibiotic production by interactions between social and resource environments.

Incorporation of Plasmid DNA Into Bacterial Membrane Vesicles by Peptidoglycan Defects in Escherichia coli

Sharmin Aktar et al.

Summary: Membrane vesicles (MVs) released by prokaryotes play a role in cell-cell interactions, with outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) being a type released by Gram-negative bacteria. This study investigated the mechanism of DNA incorporation into OMVs in Gram-negative bacteria, revealing potential routes of DNA leakage and O-IMV formation under conditions of peptidoglycan damage. The findings contribute to understanding vesicle-mediated horizontal gene transfer and the potential use of MVs for DNA transport.
