Effects of Dietary Patterns on Biomarkers of Inflammation and Immune Responses: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Liselot Koelman et al.

Summary: The study highlights the beneficial anti-inflammatory effects of the Mediterranean diet in adults, showing significant reductions in inflammatory biomarkers compared to other dietary patterns. Future large-scale intervention studies are needed to directly compare various dietary patterns in relation to multiple inflammatory and immune-related pathways.

Dietary Interventions to Treat Type 2 Diabetes in Adults with a Goal of Remission: An Expert Consensus Statement from the American College of Lifestyle Medicine

Richard M. Rosenfeld et al.

Summary: The Expert Consensus Statement aims to assist clinicians in achieving remission of type 2 diabetes in adults using diet as a primary intervention. The statements were developed by a multi-disciplinary panel of experts in diabetes treatment and research, and cover various aspects including dietary interventions, support and monitoring, weight loss, and policy. The consensus emphasizes the effectiveness of diet as a primary intervention, particularly a diet focused on plant-based foods with minimal consumption of meat and other animal products.

An updated systematic review and meta-analysis on adherence to mediterranean diet and risk of cancer

Jakub Morze et al.

Summary: This systematic review updated the evidence on the association between adherence to the Mediterranean diet (MedDiet) and cancer mortality, site-specific cancer risk in the general population, all-cause mortality and cancer recurrence among cancer survivors. The analysis included 117 studies with 3,202,496 participants, showing an inverse association between highest adherence to MedDiet and various cancer risks, while moderate certainty of evidence was found for some outcomes.

Mediterranean Diet and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Perpetual Inspiration for the Scientific World. A Review

Tatjana Milenkovic et al.

Summary: The Mediterranean diet has shown significant impact on the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes, particularly in regions like the Balkan Peninsula and North Macedonia where there is a constant rise in diabetes cases. Due to economic constraints, there is a need for an affordable dietary pattern to help improve diabetes incidence.

Mediterranean Diet and Mortality in People with Cardiovascular Disease: A Meta-Analysis of Prospective Cohort Studies

Chengyao Tang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association of the Mediterranean diet with mortality among people with a history of cardiovascular disease, showing that adherence to the diet improved survival in this population. Subgroup analyses indicated a stronger association between the Mediterranean diet and all-cause mortality in Mediterranean areas and shorter duration studies.
