Effects of Tetraselmis chuii Microalgae Supplementation on Anthropometric, Hormonal and Hematological Parameters in Healthy Young Men: A Double-Blind Study

Angel Garcia et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of Tetraselmis chuii (TC) microalgae supplementation on hematological, anthropometric, and hormonal parameters in healthy young men. The results showed that TC supplementation led to significant increases in muscle mass, erythropoietin, insulin-like growth factor 1, free testosterone, leukocytes, neutrophils, and lymphocytes, while decreasing fat mass, platelets, hematocrit, and mean corpuscular hemoglobin levels.

Edible Microalgae and Their Bioactive Compounds in the Prevention and Treatment of Metabolic Alterations

Sara Ramos-Romero et al.

Summary: Microalgae are considered as excellent future foods due to their high-quality protein content and rich bioactive molecules, which have potential activity against modern epidemics of obesity and diabetes. They may contribute beneficial effects against metabolic syndrome through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and other bioactive components at different stages.

Interleukin-1 in obesity-related low-grade inflammation: From molecular mechanisms to therapeutic strategies

Mohammad Ghanbari et al.

Summary: Obesity leads to chronic low-grade inflammation by upregulating pro-inflammatory interleukins (ILs), particularly IL-1 alpha and IL-1 beta, which promote insulin resistance and dysfunction of adipocytes. The study aims to review the molecular mechanisms and roles of IL-1 in obesity-related complications like type II diabetes, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, atherosclerosis, and cognitive disorders, as well as discuss advances in treating these complications through IL-1 suppression with natural drugs, synthetic agents, and gene therapy.

Summary: HO-1, known for its antioxidant properties, has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects, making it a potential treatment for chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Inducing HO-1 has therapeutic potential, but there are challenges to translating this treatment to clinical use.
