Parameter Modeling Analysis of a Cylindrical Ferrite Magnetic Shield to Reduce Magnetic Noise

Danyue Ma et al.

Summary: This article examines the importance of magnetic field shields for electronic equipment, ultrahigh-sensitivity sensors, and electrical instruments. It analyzes the calculation methods of longitudinal and transverse magnetic noise using loss separation. Experimental results confirm the feasibility of the model, and optimized parameters are obtained for reducing magnetic noise by analyzing the effect of structure parameters. The results show that longitudinal magnetic noise decreases with increasing aspect ratio, while transverse magnetic noise remains unchanged when the aspect ratio exceeds 1.

Single beam Cs-Ne SERF atomic magnetometer with the laser power differential method

Yao Chen et al.

Summary: In this paper, we introduce a single beam compact spin exchange relaxation free (SERF) magnetometer that is simple in configuration and compatible with the silicon-glass bonding micro-machining method. We experimentally and theoretically demonstrate that Ne buffer gas is more efficient in reducing wall relaxation compared to other commonly used gas species. We also propose a laser power differential method to suppress power noise and achieve significant improvement. Furthermore, we study a Cs-based atomic magnetometer to reduce power consumption and achieve high sensitivity.

A nanocrystalline shield for high precision co-magnetometer operated in spin-exchange relaxation-free regime

Yang Fu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a low-noise nanocrystalline magnetic shield for SERF co-magnetometer. The transfer function model of the co-magnetometer to transverse magnetic noise was established, and the magnetic noise characteristics of nanocrystalline and other shielding materials were analyzed. Experimental results show that the nanocrystalline shield significantly decreases the signal noise and bias instability of the SERF co-magnetometer.

A proposal for detection of absolute rotation using superconductors and large voltages

E. M. Forgan et al.

Summary: The study describes designs for practical detectors of absolute rotation that rely on the creation of magnetic fields by rotating charged objects relative to an inertial frame, utilizing superconductors to shield and confine the magnetic fields, and as a basis for a SQUID detector. The designs are shown to have sufficient sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio to measure the Earth's sidereal rate of rotation, while also being able to confirm Maxwell's equations in a rotating frame and test whether low-frequency electromagnetic energy experiences the same inertial rest-frame as matter through direct experimental tests.

Precision magnetic field modelling and control for wearable magnetoencephalography

Molly Rea et al.

Summary: This study introduces the potential of optically-pumped magnetometers (OPMs) in magnetoencephalography (MEG) experiments and emphasizes the importance of controlling background magnetic fields. The authors propose a magnetic field mapping technique that accurately reconstructs field magnitude and compensates for it through an electromagnetic coil system, significantly reducing low-frequency interference. This technology can improve data quality in experiments, especially those measuring low-frequency oscillations or encouraging head movement.

Vector measurements using all optical scalar atomic magnetometers

Rui Zhang et al.

Summary: Vector field measurement was achieved using an all-optical atomic magnetometer, which utilized AC and DC components of the probe signal to measure the field magnitude and polar angle, resulting in high-precision angle measurements. Calibration of the sensor led to errors lower than 1 degree over most set polar angles.

Effect of gaps on magnetic noise of cylindrical ferrite shield

Jixi Lu et al.

Summary: The study on multi-annular ferrite shields showed that as the gap width increases, axial magnetic noise decreases while radial magnetic noise increases. Although gaps may increase radial magnetic noise, this detrimental effect can be significantly suppressed by using ferrite material with lower permeability and reducing gap width.
