Extrinsic toughening of recycled carbon fibers in polypropylene composites in the absence of plasticity penalty

Abbas Ghanbari et al.

Summary: Advanced composite materials reinforced with carbon fibers have various applications, including replacing metallic automotive parts. This study explores the potential of using recycled carbon fibers to enhance the strength of polypropylene composites. The results show significant improvement in strength without compromising other properties. Compared to commercial steel parts, recycled carbon fiber reinforced composites exhibit superior specific strength and reduced weight.

Nano-TiO2 effect on thermal, rheological and structural properties of thermoplastic polypropylene nanocomposites

Ahlem Bendaoued et al.

Summary: In this paper, nanofillers obtained by Sol-gel method were added as fillers in polypropylene composites to enhance the thermal and rheological properties and ensure good interface compatibility. The synthesized nano-TiO2 powders exhibited excellent thermal stability and viscoelasticity. The study showed that the molar ratio of TiO2 influenced the final thermal stability and degree of crystallinity of the polypropylene matrix. The incorporation of 5wt% TiO2 was found to be an effective and promising method to improve the rheological properties of the resulting composite.

Flame retardancy effect of phosphorus graphite nanoplatelets on ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer: Physical blending versus chemical modification

Ghane Moradkhani et al.

Summary: The modification of graphite nanoplatelets with ammonium polyphosphate effectively enhances the flame retardant properties of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) compared to using a physical mixture of the two components. The modified sample showed significant improvements in flame retardancy, with a 57% decrease in peak heat release rate (pHRR) and a 35% reduction in total heat release (THR) compared to the physical mixture.

Optimization of the Filler Concentration on Fused Filament Fabrication 3D Printed Polypropylene with Titanium Dioxide Nanocomposites

Nectarios Vidakis et al.

Summary: This study aimed to enhance the properties of PP by introducing TiO2 nanoparticles as nanofillers, producing novel nanocomposite filaments and evaluating their properties through various tests. The results showed an improvement in nanocomposite properties with increased filler concentration, while the material's microstructural effect and processability were not significantly affected, showing potential for industrialization.
