Influence of Sintering Process Conditions on Microstructural and Mechanical Properties of Boron Carbide Ceramics Synthesized by Spark Plasma Sintering

Yingying Liu et al.

Summary: Boron carbide (B4C) ceramics were synthesized by spark plasma sintering without sintering additives, and the effects of various sintering parameters on the densification behavior and mechanical properties were comprehensively investigated. The ceramics with density close to theoretical values exhibited high hardness and fracture toughness, and the twin structures present in the ceramics were beneficial for mechanical performance.
