Interaction of silane with 10-MDP on affecting surface chemistry and resin bonding of zirconia

Shu Ye et al.

Summary: The effect of silane contents on their chemical interaction with MDP and affecting the bonding of MDP to zirconia was investigated using TOF-SIMS and SSNMR spectroscopy. The results showed that the silane enhanced the hydrophilicity and resin affinity of zirconia, but did not adversely affect the bond durability.

Optimization of particle size, dispersity, and conductivity of 8 mol% Y2O3 doped tetragonal zirconia polycrystalline nanopowder prepared by modified sol-gel method via activated carbon absorption

Qiaoyang Sun et al.

Summary: 8 mol% Y2O3 doped tetragonal zirconia polycrystalline (8Y-TZP) ceramic nanopowders were synthesized using a modified sol-gel method with zirconium carbonate basic as resources, and activated carbon as a dispersant. The addition of activated carbon resulted in reduced crystallite size and loosely agglomerated nanopowders, which sintered to high relative density with improved ionic conductivity.

Mechanical properties and translucency of a multi-layered zirconia with color gradient for dental applications

Manuel F. R. P. Alves et al.

Summary: The properties of yttria-stabilized zirconia-based ceramics containing Fe2O3 as a coloring agent were evaluated in this work. The addition of Fe2O3 did not interfere with densification, phase composition, or microstructure of the sintered ceramics, but increased the material hardness and contrast ratios, leading to a loss of translucency.

Alumina and Zirconia-Reinforced Polyamide PA-12 Composites for Biomedical Additive Manufacturing

Damian S. Nakonieczny et al.

Summary: This work focused on preparing composites with a polyamide matrix and surface-modified ZrO2 or Al2O3 for potential applications in bioengineering, specifically in dental prosthetics and orthopaedics. The ceramic fillers underwent chemical surface modifications to enhance surface development and introduce additional functional groups, aiming to improve bonding with the polymer matrix. The manufactured filaments were used in 3D FDM printing and subjected to various tests, including mechanical properties and durability evaluations.

Feedstock properties and debinding mechanism of yttria-stabilized zirconia/stainless steel 17-4PH micro-components fabricated via two-component micro-powder injection molding process

Al Basir et al.

Summary: Two-component micro-powder injection molding (2C-mu PIM) is a promising technique for producing bi-material micro-sized components, as demonstrated in this research investigating the solvent and thermal debinding mechanisms of green 3YSZ/SS 17-4PH micro-parts. The experimental results showed that the removal rate of palm stearin increased with temperature during the solvent debinding process and the joining between 3YSZ and SS 17-4PH collapsed at 80 degrees C. Additionally, open channels developed during solvent debinding at 70 degrees C helped eliminate 96%-99% of the binder system in the thermal debinding stage, indicating successful fabrication of bi-material micro-components.
