Influence of hydrogen on the stress-relaxation properties of 17-4PH martensitic stainless steel manufactured by laser powder bed fusion

N. Guennouni et al.

Summary: The stress-relaxation tests conducted on additively manufactured (AM) 17-4PH martensitic stainless steel (MSS) and conventional 17-4PH MSS counterpart (CM) in the H900 state showed significant differences in relaxation properties. These differences were attributed to a higher reversed austenite amount in the AM MSS, with hydrogen clearly influencing dislocation mobility in the austenite.

Fatigue life optimization for 17-4Ph steel produced by selective laser melting

Jean-marc Linares et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a methodology to control the fatigue life of 17-4Ph stainless steel by selecting the most relevant manufacturing parameters. The results show that the fatigue limit of the specimens manufactured by SLM has reached near 90% of the value found in samples machined from a bar, and provides an increase of 18% to the fatigue limit compared to other research works.

Summary: The relationship between microstructure, composition, and localized corrosion resistance of a low carbon CrNi-Mo martensitic-ferritic stainless steel was investigated. The study found that heat treatment significantly influenced the localized corrosion susceptibility. Austenite reversion and other structural transformations decreased the pitting potential.

Stress corrosion cracking of 316L manufactured by laser powder bed fusion in 6% ferric chloride solution

V Cruz et al.

Summary: The stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of 316L stainless steel manufactured by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) was investigated. The effects of build orientation and surface roughness on the SCC of LPBF 316L were also examined. LPBF 316L exhibited higher uniform elongation compared to wrought 316L. Specimens tested perpendicular to the build direction showed a greater susceptibility to SCC, with cracks propagating along melt pool boundaries with cellular dissolution. Furthermore, the 'As-built' LPBF 316L specimens with higher surface roughness compared to machined specimens also exhibited greater SCC susceptibility.

Impact of the laser scanning strategy on the quality of 17-4PH stainless steel parts manufactured by selective laser melting

Sara Giganto et al.

Summary: A significant correlation between scanning strategies and the quality of parts manufactured additively with Selective Laser Melting (SLM) technology is shown. The research evaluates the properties of 17-4PH parts manufactured using three usual scanning strategies (normal, concentric, and hexagonal). The hexagonal strategy is found to be the most appropriate in terms of porosity, while the normal strategy exhibits the best surface finish on the top face. The concentric strategy presents different results with larger and irregular pores, ductile tensile behavior, low roughness on lateral faces, and high geometrical errors with large scanning vectors.

A phase field formulation for dissolution-driven stress corrosion cracking

Chuanjie Cui et al.

Summary: In this study, a new theoretical and numerical framework for modelling mechanically-assisted corrosion in elastic-plastic solids is presented. The model successfully captures pitting and stress corrosion cracking, as well as the pit-to-crack transition. For the first time, the role of mechanical straining as the electrochemical driving force is incorporated. The use of a phase field paradigm helps in accurately approximating complex SCC morphologies.

Effect of selective laser melting process parameters on the microstructure and properties of a precipitation hardening stainless steel

Ruirui Fang et al.

Summary: This study used selective laser melting to manufacture stainless steel samples and found that the samples were mainly composed of martensite and austenite, with excellent mechanical properties and relatively high relative density. The strengthening mechanisms included grain boundary strengthening, dislocation strengthening, and precipitation strengthening, with dislocation strengthening playing a dominant role. The fracture mechanisms were mainly ductile fracture for most samples.

Effect of processing parameters on the fractions of martensite in 17-4 PH stainless steel fabricated by selective laser melting

Tzu-Hou Hsu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the martensite fractions of 17-4 PH stainless steel processed by SLM with variations in energy densities, finding a positive correlation between energy densities and martensite fractions. Decreasing hatch distance leads to higher fractions of reverted austenite and lower martensite fractions.

Effect of scanning strategy on the microstructure, texture, and mechanical properties of 15-5PH stainless steel processed by selective laser melting

X. D. Nong et al.

Summary: Selective laser melting (SLM) was used to produce 15-5 precipitation hardening martensite stainless steel, with different scanning strategies affecting the microstructure, texture, and mechanical properties of the material. Island scanning strategy was found to result in high-densification samples with fine grain structure, leading to improved strength and elongation in the material. The results highlight the potential of additive manufacturing in tailoring the properties of 15-5PH steel.
