High-Performance Tin-Lead Mixed-Perovskite Solar Cells with Vertical Compositional Gradient

Jiupeng Cao et al.

Summary: Lead-tin mixed perovskite materials have potential in approaching the Shockley-Queisser limit in solar cells, but their efficiency and stability need further improvement. By introducing 4-hydrazinobenzoic acid and SnF2 as additives, along with controlling antisolvent temperature to form a vertical Pb/Sn compositional gradient in perovskite films, graded vertical heterojunctions can be constructed to enhance efficiency and stability of solar cells. Under optimal conditions, the lead-tin mixed perovskite solar cells show up to 22% power conversion efficiency and excellent stability.

All-perovskite tandem solar cells with improved grain surface passivation

Renxing Lin et al.

Summary: Researchers have developed ammonium-cation-passivated Pb-Sn perovskites with long diffusion lengths, enabling high-efficiency all-perovskite tandem solar cells. By enhancing the adsorption of the passivator using a stronger surface-passivator interaction, the carrier diffusion length within Pb-Sn perovskites is doubled, resulting in an efficiency of over 22%. The certified efficiency of 26.4% achieved in the all-perovskite tandem solar cells exceeds that of the best-performing single-junction perovskite solar cells.

Materials and Methods for High-Efficiency Perovskite Solar Modules

Do-Kyoung Lee et al.

Summary: The research on photovoltaic devices based on halide perovskite materials has surged since the breakthrough of solid-state perovskite-sensitized solar cells in 2012. The focus is shifting towards developing high-efficiency large-area perovskite photovoltaics with improved uniformity and quality of perovskite films for commercialization and competitiveness with conventional silicon solar cells. Various engineering techniques and coating methodologies are being explored for high-efficiency perovskite solar modules (PSMs) in the pursuit of commercialization.

Synergistic Effects of Cation and Anion in an Ionic Imidazolium Tetrafluoroborate Additive for Improving the Efficiency and Stability of Half-Mixed Pb-Sn Perovskite Solar Cells

Hongki Kim et al.

Summary: Additive engineering using IMBF4 is proposed to enhance the optoelectronic performance of half-mixed Pb-Sn perovskites, leading to longer carrier lifetimes. The best-performing half-mixed Pb-Sn PSC demonstrates an efficiency above 19% with negligible hysteresis and a degradation lifetime to 80% of 53.5 hours under continuous illumination in a nitrogen-filled glovebox.

How antisolvent miscibility affects perovskite film wrinkling and photovoltaic properties

Seul-Gi Kim et al.

Summary: The microscopic morphologies of perovskite films strongly influence the density, lifetime, mobility, and trap states of charge carriers, thus impacting the photovoltaic performance. By controlling the geometry of micro-wrinkles in perovskite layers, photocarrier transport performances can be enhanced. The study demonstrates that the wrinkled morphology formed at lower temperatures shows higher power conversion efficiency and better stability, with further improvement achieved through interfacial and additive engineering, reaching an efficiency of 23.02%.

Toward highly efficient and stable Sn2+ and mixed Pb2+/Sn2+ based halide perovskite solar cells through device engineering

Eng Liang Lim et al.

Summary: Lead halide perovskite has great potential for solar energy applications, but the toxic nature of lead hinders its widespread use. Tin (Sn2+) has been suggested as a replacement for lead to reduce toxicity, but defects in Sn2+ halide perovskites result in poor performance. The focus of research is on device engineering to enhance the efficiency and stability of Sn2+ and mixed Pb2+/Sn2+ based perovskite solar cells.

Tin Halide Perovskites Going Forward: Frost Diagrams Offer Hints

Muhammad Awais et al.

Summary: Tin is considered as a suitable replacement for toxic lead in conventional perovskite solar cells, but due to its different chemical properties, tin-based PSCs are not efficient. Recent findings suggest that tin-based perovskites can oxidize even in the absence of oxygen, highlighting unconventional pathways for oxidation.
