Molybdenum Disulfide/Tin Disulfide Ultrathin Nanosheets as Cathodes for Sodium-Carbon Dioxide Batteries

Karthika Pichaimuthu et al.

Summary: Metal-CO2 rechargeable batteries, especially Na-CO2 batteries, are important energy-storage devices with higher energy density and carbon capture capability. However, the slow electrochemical processes and high overpotential limit their performance. In this study, researchers developed a MoS2/SnS2 cathode composite catalyst that effectively reduces the overpotential and improves the cyclic stability of Na-CO2 batteries. The incorporation of SnS2 induces structural changes and higher catalytic activity, resulting in a stable battery performance with a discharge capacity of 35,889 mAh/g.

A Carbon Foam with Sodiophilic Surface for Highly Reversible, Ultra-Long Cycle Sodium Metal Anode

Xue-Yang Cui et al.

Summary: An oxygen-doped carbon foam (OCF) derived from starch is reported as a promising material for sodium-ion batteries, with the ability to reduce nucleation resistance of sodium metal, provide abundant nucleation sites, and form a more stable SEI layer, leading to stable cycling and high coulombic efficiency. The OCF electrode can maintain stable 2000 cycles at a current density of 10 mA cm(-2) with a coulombic efficiency of 99.83%, and the Na@OCF||Na3V2(PO4)(3) full cell also shows high capacity retention over 150 cycles. These results provide a simple and effective method for achieving the safety and commercialization of sodium metal anodes.
