Metal-Free Photoinduced Deformylative Minisci-Type Reaction

Xinxin Wang et al.

Summary: A metal-free deformylative Minisci-type reaction is developed using aliphatic aldehydes as alkyl radical precursors. The reaction proceeds through a sequence of hydrogen atom abstraction (HAA) from the aldehyde and decarbonylation under mild photochemical conditions. It offers advantages such as good regioselectivity, broad substrate scope, and easy operation. The reaction is also suitable for late-stage functionalization of complex heteroarenes and can be easily scaled up.

Metallaphotoredox: The Merger of Photoredox and Transition Metal Catalysis

Amy Y. Chan et al.

Summary: The merger of photoredox catalysis with transition metal catalysis, known as metallaphotoredox catalysis, has become an important part of synthetic methodology. It combines the bond formation capability of transition metal catalysis with the utility of photoinduced electron and energy transfer processes. Photocatalytic substrate activation allows the involvement of simple starting materials in metal-mediated bond-forming processes, while electron or energy transfer with organometallic intermediates provides a complementary activation mode to traditional catalytic platforms.

Remote C-H Pyridylation of Hydroxamates through Direct Photoexcitation of O-Aryl Oxime Pyridinium Intermediates

Byeongseok Kweon et al.

Summary: An efficient strategy for remote C-H pyridylation of hydroxamates with excellent ortho-selectivity has been developed by designing new photon-absorbing O-aryl oxime pyridinium salts. The photoexcitation of oxime pyridinium intermediates generates iminyl radicals via photolytic N-O bond cleavage, allowing for the installation of pyridyl rings at the gamma-CN position. This novel synthetic approach offers advantages in terms of efficiency, simplicity, and broad functional group tolerance under mild and metal-free conditions.
