Arginase-1 Is Required for Macrophage-Mediated Renal Tubule Regeneration

Naomi S. Shin et al.

Summary: Inflammatory macrophages that infiltrate the kidney after injury transition to a reparative state characterized by the expression of multiple proteins, including Arg1. By studying mice lacking macrophage Arg1 expression, the researchers found that Arg1 plays a critical role in renal recovery by promoting renal epithelial cell proliferation. Enhancing Arg1 expression may improve renal recovery after kidney injury.

A prospective cohort study of acute kidney injury and kidney outcomes, cardiovascular events, and death

T. Alp Ikizler et al.

Summary: AKI is associated with adverse outcomes such as incident CKD, CKD progression, heart failure events, and all-cause death, but not major atherosclerotic cardiovascular events. Considering kidney function recovery and proteinuria status three months after AKI provides important prognostic information for long-term clinical outcomes.

Tubular Cell Dropout in Preimplantation Deceased Donor Biopsies as a Predictor of Delayed Graft Function

Zachary M. Avigan et al.

Summary: The study identified a correlation between decreased tubular cells and increased macrophage infiltration in high-risk deceased donor kidney transplants and the occurrence of DGF. Analysis using imaging mass cytometry showed a trend towards reduced tubular cells and increased stromal cells in transplant kidneys that developed postimplant DGF compared to those that did not.

Biomarkers of inflammation and repair in kidney disease progression

Jeremy Puthumana et al.

Summary: The study found that levels of MCP-1 and YKL-40 measured at 3 months after hospitalization were associated with long-term risk of kidney failure, while UMOD levels were linked with decreased risk of kidney injury. Using a multimarker score provided better accuracy in predicting patients' risk of kidney disease progression compared to traditional clinical variables.

Summary: The study found that in breast cancer patients, anti-PD1 treatment can lead to clonal expansion of PD1-expressing T cells in a subset of tumors, regardless of tumor subtype. The expansion mainly involves CD8(+) T cells and CD4(+) T cells with distinct immune cell characteristics.

Summary: In patients with acute interstitial nephritis (AIN), urine interleukin (IL)-9 levels can predict kidney function, while corticosteroid use is associated with glomerular filtration rate at 6 months post-diagnosis, especially in patients with high urine IL-9 levels.
