sp-Carbon Incorporated Conductive Metal-Organic Framework as Photocathode for Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Generation

Yang Lu et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have high porosity and find broad applications in catalysis and gas separation. However, their insulating feature and limited active sites hinder their use as photocathode active materials in photoelectrocatalytic hydrogen generation. To address this, a layered conductive two-dimensional conjugated MOF (2D c-MOF) with sp-carbon active sites was developed, achieving efficient hydrogen generation.

Crystal orientation-dependent etching and trapping in thermally-oxidised Cu2O photocathodes for water splitting

Wenzhe Niu et al.

Summary: Ammonia solution etching of cuprous oxide photocathode devices results in enhanced photoelectrochemical performance and improved reproducibility. The etching process also leads to diverse morphologies of Cu2O crystals based on different crystallographic orientations. Metallic copper traps are found to limit the photoelectrochemical performance.

Tuning the Electronic Bandgap of Graphdiyne by H-Substitution to Promote Interfacial Charge Carrier Separation for Enhanced Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production

Jian Li et al.

Summary: Graphdiyne, with its high pi-conjugated structure and direct bandgap, meets the requirements for photocatalysis. By tuning the bandgap through H-substitution, the interfacial charge separation can be promoted and photocatalytic performance can be improved. Hybridizing GDY and H-GDY with TiO2 leads to enhanced H-2 generation due to efficient electron and hole separation.

Solvent-mediated engineering of copper-metalated acetylenic polymer scaffolds with enhanced photoelectrochemical performance†

Tao Zhang et al.

Summary: A solvent-mediated strategy is demonstrated for tailoring conjugated acetylenic polymers from metal-free to copper-metallated diacetylenic linkages. Metalation extends light absorption and promotes charge transport in acetylenic polymers, resulting in higher hydrogen-evolution photocurrent density on a photocathode. This work provides a feasible strategy for modulating the Cu-metalation of acetylenic polymers, potentially inspiring further studies in this field.
