Zinc Oxide Defect Microstructure and Surface Chemistry Derived from Oxidation of Metallic Zinc: Thin-Film Transistor and Sensor Behavior of ZnO Films and Rods

Rudolf C. Hoffmann et al.

Summary: Zinc oxide thin films with high relative densities and preferential growth in (100) orientation can be fabricated by controlled oxidation of sputtered zinc metal films. The defect structure of thin ZnO films can be tracked by Doppler-broadening positron annihilation spectroscopy and positron lifetime studies. These films obtained by conversion of metallic zinc can also serve as seed layers for solution deposition of zinc oxide nanowires.

Deposition and characterization of lithium doped direct current magnetron sputtered Cu2O films

M. Nyborg et al.

Summary: Lithium-doped cuprous oxide films were deposited on quartz substrates using magnetron reactive co-sputtering, with Li concentrations ranging from 2 x 10^18 to 5 x 10^20 cm^(-3). XRD confirmed phase pure Cu2O and Hall measurements showed an increased free carrier density with doping concentration. The highest Li doping concentration resulted in low resistivity p-type Cu2O with acceptor concentrations up to 2 x 10^17 cm^(-2).

Summary: A new system for high repetition rate and real-time pulse analysis has been implemented at the Monoenergetic Positron Source, allowing for material characterizations with respect to chemical, mechanical, electrical, and magnetic properties. The system processes positron annihilation lifetime events with up to 13 MHz repetition rate online while reducing pile-up and performing energy calibration.

Cation non-stoichiometry in Fe:SrTiO3 thin films and its effect on the electrical conductivity

Maximilian Morgenbesser et al.

Summary: The study investigated the interplay of structure, composition, and electrical conductivity in Fe-doped SrTiO3 thin films prepared by pulsed laser deposition. It was found that films deposited from stoichiometric targets showed severe cation non-stoichiometry, but the use of targets with Sr excess improved the cation stoichiometry in the films. Conductivity measurements were found to be more appropriate for assessing SrTiO3 film quality in terms of cation stoichiometry.

Open-air printing of Cu2O thin films with high hole mobility for semitransparent solar harvesters

Abderrahime Sekkat et al.

Summary: Cu2O thin films with high hole mobility of 92 cm(2)V(-1)s(-1) are successfully deposited using atmospheric-pressure spatial atomic layer deposition at temperatures below 260 degrees C. The films exhibit a tunable optical bandgap and are utilized in semi-transparent solar harvesters with efficiency comparable to devices incorporating much thicker Cu2O layers. This work presents a promising approach towards cost-efficient all-oxide solar harvesters and other (opto)electronic devices.
