Contribution of dark current density to the photodetecting properties of thieno[3,4-b]pyrazine-based low bandgap polymers

Hyeokjun Kim et al.

Summary: This study focused on the development of red-NIR OPDs by synthesizing low-bandgap PDs and blending them with NFA. It was found that PDs with shallow HOMO energy levels generated the largest ground-state electron transfer at negative bias, leading to an underestimation of R and D* values. Moreover, the contribution of Jd on Jph was significant under weak light irradiation, prompting the modification of existing equations for a better understanding of photodetecting properties.

Infrared Organic Photodetectors Employing Ultralow Bandgap Polymer and Non-Fullerene Acceptors for Biometric Monitoring

Polina Jacoutot et al.

Summary: Recent research in organic photodetectors (OPD) has focused on extending broadband detection into the near-infrared (NIR) region. In this study, two blends of a low bandgap polymer, TQ-T, with non-fullerene acceptors, IEICO-4F and Y6, were compared for their ability to sense NIR light beyond 1100 nm. The TQ-T:IEICO-4F device showed superior infrared responsivity and could detect light up to 1800 nm, while the TQ-T:Y6 blend had lower responsivity. Device physics analysis and spectroscopic studies revealed that the superior performance of TQ-T:IEICO-4F OPD was due to faster charge separation and improved donor-acceptor domain mixing.

Explaining the Fill-Factor and Photocurrent Losses of Nonfullerene Acceptor-Based Solar Cells by Probing the Long-Range Charge Carrier Diffusion and Drift Lengths

Nurlan Tokmoldin et al.

Summary: This research shows that the fill factor of organic solar cells is closely related to the long-range carrier drift and diffusion lengths, and a simple method using steady-state photoconductance measurements can determine these characteristic lengths and the fill factor. While a straightforward approach can improve the fill factor of organic solar cells, their limitation lies in the small diffusion lengths of photogenerated carriers.
