Complementary Operando Spectroscopy identification of in-situ generated metastable charge-asymmetry Cu2-CuN3 clusters for CO2 reduction to ethanol

Xiaozhi Su et al.

Summary: This article investigates the activity and selectivity issues of copper-based materials in converting carbon dioxide into multi-carbon products, and reports a high-performance CO2RR catalyst. Through in-situ experiments and computational methods, the authors demonstrate the atomic structure-activity relationship of the catalyst and reveal the potential-dependent transformation of Cu-2-CuN3 clusters and the role of charge-asymmetric sites in efficient ethanol formation.

Size-Dependent Activity and Selectivity of Atomic-Level Copper Nanoclusters during CO/CO2 Electroreduction

Weifeng Rong et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of size-gradient Cu catalysts on CO2/CO electroreduction reactions, revealing that increasing the size of Cu nanoclusters can enhance catalytic activity and selectivity. The findings provide a clear understanding of mechanisms in the CO2/CORR at the atomic level.

Breaking the Linear Scaling Relationship by Compositional and Structural Crafting of Ternary Cu-Au/Ag Nanoframes for Electrocatalytic Ethylene Production

Likun Xiong et al.

Summary: The fabrication of ternary Cu-Au/Ag nanoframes successfully decoupled the functions of CO generation and C-C coupling, promoting efficient production of C2H4 with good electrocatalytic stability and material durability. The study revealed that direct CO dimerization is one of the favorable pathways for C2H4 generation.

Efficient Electrocatalytic CO2 Reduction to C2+ Alcohols at Defect-Site-Rich Cu Surface

Zhengxiang Gu et al.

Summary: A rational strategy was demonstrated to achieve a high faradaic efficiency towards C2+ alcohols by constructing copper catalysts with stepped sites in a CO-rich environment. The defect-site-rich copper catalyst enabled the formation of C2+ alcohols with partial current densities of > 100 mA.cm(-2) and achieved a stable alcohol faradaic efficiency of around 60% during a continuous 30-hour operation.

Double sulfur vacancies by lithium tuning enhance CO2 electroreduction to n-propanol

Chen Peng et al.

Summary: Electrochemical CO2 reduction to valuable products like n-propanol is hindered by poor selectivities and low yields. Here, researchers demonstrate that double sulfur vacancies on hexagonal copper sulfide can serve as efficient electrocatalytic centers for stabilizing key intermediates, leading to high Faradaic efficiency towards n-propanol.

Coordination environment dependent selectivity of single-site-Cu enriched crystalline porous catalysts in CO2 reduction to CH4

Yu Zhang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the ECR selectivity depends strongly on the Cu site coordination environment in crystalline porous catalysts, with Cu-DBC showing higher selectivity and activity due to the lower energy barriers of Cu-O-4 sites during the ECR process. This provides a platform for constructing highly selective ECR catalysts with potential applications in the energy conversion field.
