Seasonality of acute kidney injury in a tertiary hospital academic center: an observational cohort study

Gianmarco Lombardi et al.

Summary: The study found that acute kidney injury (AKI) in hospitalized populations has a defined seasonal pattern, with a higher risk during wintertime. Lower air temperature and higher humidity were associated with AKI risk, but only higher humidity level showed a significant and independent association in multivariable-adjusted models.

Long-term consequences of acute kidney injury: a narrative review

Joana Gameiro et al.

Summary: The incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) has been increasing in recent decades, with significant short-term and long-term impacts on patient outcomes. However, there is a lack of established guidelines for follow-up care and treatment strategies for AKI patients. Early referral to nephrology post-discharge care is associated with improved outcomes for AKI survivors.

Summary: AKI is common among patients with suspected infection in the emergency department and is significantly associated with 30-day mortality and renal function decline one year after the AKI episode.

Summary: The study found that poor outcomes of patients with severe AKI requiring RRT are related to various factors, including causes of the disease, clinical course, and the need for continuous renal replacement therapy.
