Policy recommendations of international bureaucracies: the importance of country-specificity

Per-Olof Busch et al.

Summary: International bureaucracies provide policy advice to national administrative units, with the influence of their recommendations being shaped by national embeddedness and country-tailored research. While some give generic recommendations, others tailor their advice to specific national audiences. Investigating financial policy recommendations, it is found that national embeddedness and country-tailored advice make international bureaucracies more influential.

Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis for Renewable Energies: Research Trends, Gaps and the Challenge of Improving Participation

Rodrigo A. Estevez et al.

Summary: This study reviews how social criteria and participation mechanisms have been incorporated into decision-making processes for renewable energy projects, with most articles focusing on the analytical hierarchy process method and geographically concentrated in Asia and Europe. The majority of articles included a participative component based on expert consultation, but some did not provide descriptions of the expert elicitation process, highlighting challenges in improving expert consultation methods and broadening stakeholder participation.

Long-term deep decarbonisation pathways for Ecuador: Insights from an integrated assessment model

Daniel Villamar et al.

Summary: The integrated assessment model (IAM) developed for Ecuador, known as the Ecuador Land Use and Energy Network Analysis model (ELENA), shows that Ecuador's National Determined Contributions (NDC) are not aligned with the well below 2 degrees C target in the Paris Agreement. To achieve deep decarbonization, disruptive strategies involving bioenergy and reforestation are necessary. Diversifying Ecuador's energy matrix with low carbon technologies and electrification is crucial to stay below the 1.5 degrees C temperature threshold above pre-industrial levels.

Brazil's offshore wind energy potential assessment based on a Spatial Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis

Amanda Vinhoza et al.

Summary: This study evaluates Brazil's offshore wind potential through a novel approach, finding a total potential of 1688 GW, technical potential of 1064 GW, and environmental and social potential of 330 GW. The Northeast region of Brazil is the most economically attractive area for offshore wind development, while the Southeast region is less attractive. The results show that Brazil has significant offshore wind potential that can be sustainably developed.
