Dynamic Gaussian bare-bones fruit fly optimizers with abandonment mechanism: method and analysis

Helong Yu et al.

Summary: The Fruit Fly Optimization Algorithm (FOA) is a recently developed algorithm inspired by the foraging behavior of fruit fly populations. In order to improve its global search capability and solution quality, a dynamic step length mechanism, abandonment mechanism, and Gaussian bare-bones mechanism are introduced into FOA, resulting in BareFOA. Experimental results demonstrate that BareFOA outperforms other competitors in benchmark problems and engineering optimization design problems.

Summary: This study aimed to map landslide susceptibility in the Bonghwa region of South Korea using a new approach with GMDH models and hybridized models. The results showed that the hybridized models outperformed traditional models, with higher predictive performance measured by evaluation metrics. The proposed approach could be applied in data-scarce regions for landslide risk assessment.

Landslide vulnerability of the Debre Sina-Armania road section, Central Ethiopia: Insights from geophysical investigations

Gebreselassie Gebreanania Alemayo et al.

Summary: The landslide problem on the road at Dokakit Kebele near Sar Amba Kidane Mhiret locality between Debre Sina and Armania towns in Central Ethiopia is due to a combination of factors, including topography, high degree of weathering, area hydrology, and human activities. Human activities are assumed to be the triggering factors, such as deforestation, agricultural activities, search for building materials, and road construction. Remedy measures and construction of a detour road are proposed for mitigation of the recurrent slope failure in the area.
