Mesenchymal stem cells' seeded amniotic membrane as a tissue-engineered dressing for wound healing

Hamid Reza Aghayan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the regenerative effects of tissue-engineered dressings composed of human amniotic membrane graft (AM) and two types of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in a rat excisional wound model. The results demonstrated that MSC-seeded AMs had superior effects on wound closure rate, re-epithelialization, angiogenesis, and collagen remodeling compared to the control groups, with placenta-derived MSCs (PLMSCs) showing better healing effects. Seeding of MSCs on AM boosted its regenerative effects in wound treatment, with PLMSCs having superior effects to ADMSCs in the excisional wound rat model.

Processing methods for human amniotic membrane as scaffold for tissue engineering with mesenchymal stromal human cells

L. Echarte et al.

Summary: Tissue engineering applies engineering and life sciences to develop biological substitutes for tissue function. This study compared chemically and physically processed human Amniotic Membranes (hAM) and analyzed the cytocompatibility and proliferation rate of two primary human mesenchymal stromal cell lines. The results showed that DEAM10 scaffold supported higher cell proliferation rate.

The versatility of mesenchymal stem cells: From regenerative medicine to COVID, what is next?

Thais Casagrande Paim et al.

Summary: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) play crucial roles in regenerative medicine by promoting tissue healing. Their anti-inflammatory, angiogenic, and immune-modulatory properties make them suitable for tissue engineering applications, and their benefits can be enhanced when combined with biomaterials. Recent studies have also explored the potential use of MSCs in treating COVID-19 patients. However, further investigations into their basic cell biology characteristics are needed to fully understand and harness their therapeutic potential.

The adenosinergic pathway in mesenchymal stem cell fate and functions

Bruna C. Galgaro et al.

Summary: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have various important functions in tissue homeostasis, damage repair, and immune modulation, and their therapeutic potential is closely related to the CD73/adenosine-mediated signaling pathway. Further research is needed to fully understand the role of CD73 and adenosine in the therapeutic functions of MSCs.
