ASAP: assemble species by automatic partitioning

Nicolas Puillandre et al.

Summary: ASAP is a fast and efficient method for constructing species partitions from single locus sequence alignments. It offers a new scoring system without prior biological insight, and can be used through a graphical web interface or downloaded for local usage.

Mass mortality of pearl oyster (Pinctada fucata (Gould)) in Japan in 2019 and 2020 is caused by an unidentified infectious agent

Tomomasa Matsuyama et al.

Summary: A mass mortality of 0-year-old pearl oysters and anomalies in adults were observed in Japan's major pearl farming areas in the summers of 2019 and 2020. Infection trials confirmed the involvement of a non-enveloped virus with a diameter <= 100 nm in this phenomenon. The disease was successfully transmitted through eight passages, suggesting the etiology of the disease is a non-enveloped virus.

Distribution of the Pearl Oyster Pinctada maxima off Eighty Mile Beach, Western Australia

Steve Whalan et al.

Summary: By using image-based and acoustic methods, researchers elucidated the distribution patterns of Pinctada maxima off Eighty Mile Beach in Western Australia. Results showed that these pearl oysters mainly inhabit flat, sandy habitats at depths shallower than 40 meters, with neighboring benthic communities predominantly composed of filter feeders.
