Applications of drone in disaster management: A scoping review

Sharifah Mastura Syed Mohd Daud et al.

Summary: The use of drones has expanded rapidly in various fields over the past decade, including disaster management and humanitarian aid. However, evidence of their effectiveness in mass disasters remains limited. This study evaluates current drone feasibility projects and discusses challenges related to their deployment, identifying mapping/disaster management, search and rescue, transportation, and training as the main categories of drone application in disasters. While there has been a significant increase in publications on drone use in disasters, more research is needed to address post-disaster healthcare, particularly in victim identification. Further exploration of drone applications is necessary for their potential to improve disaster management effectiveness.

Outage Constrained Design in NOMA-Based D2D Offloading Systems

Yun Chen et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the power optimization problem of transmit nodes in NOMA-based D2D networks considering the estimation error of channel. By utilizing equivalent transformation and semi-definite relaxation algorithm, the thorny non-convex problem is efficiently solved. The results show that channel estimation error increases the power consumption and NOMA-based D2D systems outperform OMA.

An Uplink Throughput Optimization Scheme for UAV-Enabled Urban Emergency Communications

Bo Hu et al.

Summary: This article explores the integration of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into emergency communications to achieve efficient network recovery. By considering nonorthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technology and jointly optimizing the UAV altitude, power control, and bandwidth allocation, the system's uplink throughput can be improved. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm, particularly in the context of AtG LoS propagation advantage.

UAV-Assisted Data Collection With Nonorthogonal Multiple Access

Weichao Chen et al.

Summary: This article proposes a general NOMA-enabled UAV-assisted data collection (NUDC) protocol to maximize the sum rate of a wireless sensor network (WSN) by considering the UAV location, sensor grouping, and power control. A joint signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) hypergraph-based grouping and power control (SHG-PC) NOMA scheme is provided to efficiently obtain appropriate sensor grouping and optimal power control solutions, utilizing hypergraph and greedy coloring algorithm to find optimized group relationships. Extensive simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed protocol.

A novel model to eliminate the doubly near-far problem in wireless powered communication network

Jitendra Singh et al.

Summary: This paper studies the performance of the global controller and proposes an energy exchange model in wireless powered communication network to address the doubly near-far problem. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed EEx model is more effective in eliminating the issue but at the cost of lower maximum sum-throughput. However, it significantly improves the average BER, increasing the reliability of the system.
