Economic, Environmental and Social Impact of Carbon Tax for Iran: A Computable General Equilibrium Analysis

Seyed Farhan Moosavian et al.

Summary: Carbon taxes not only aim to reduce pollutant emissions and improve environmental quality, but also have positive effects on welfare and employment by reducing labor taxes. Research findings show that implementing carbon taxation with the redistribution of revenue can effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions and have different impacts on welfare and household budgets compared to policies without redistribution.

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of price and energy consumption on renewable energy development in different economic growth regimes in Iran using the threshold regression approach. The results show a negative relationship between energy prices and the share of renewable energy during high economic growth.

Feasibility evaluation of an off-grid solar-biomass system for remote area electrification considering various economic factors

Mohammad Mohseni et al.

Summary: Off-grid renewable energy systems are a solution for power generation in areas where access to the grid is not possible or cost-effective. This paper presents a feasibility assessment of an off-grid hybrid renewable energy system for a remote rural area in Iran. The optimized sizing of the PV-biomass system is obtained using HOMER Pro software. The results show that the proposed hybrid energy system can meet the load demand, have low net present cost and cost of energy, and greatly reduce CO2 emissions compared to a conventional coal-based electrical plant.

Evaluation of research and development subsidies and fossil energy tax for sustainable development using computable general equilibrium model

Seyed Farhan Moosavian et al.

Summary: Policy-making for sustainable development, which includes improving the environment, enhancing social welfare, and increasing economic growth, has been a focus for policymakers. This study evaluates the effects of two subsidy scenarios (research and development investment subsidy and fossil energy taxation) on achieving the goal of doubling the ratio of investment in research and development GDP. The results show that both policies can reduce energy consumption, air pollution, and social welfare.

Performance assessment of a solar PV module for different climate classifications based on energy, exergy, economic and environmental parameters

Maryam Yaghoubirad et al.

Summary: This study conducted a multi-criteria analysis on a photovoltaic module to investigate the impact of climate conditions on module performance. The findings indicated that Phoenix was the best choice in terms of energy, exergy, and economy, while Portland was the most efficient option in terms of environmental impact. The analysis also considered exergy, identifying Portland and Chicago as cities with the most optimized systems and least environmental harm.

Expanding the Dynamic Modeling of Water-Food-Energy Nexus to Include Environmental, Economic, and Social Aspects Based on Life Cycle Assessment Thinking

Inas El-Gafy et al.

Summary: The concept of the water-food-energy nexus has been expanded to include environmental, economic, and social aspects, as well as life cycle assessment based thinking. A set of indicators were proposed and calculated using a developed System Dynamic Model. The model was applied to predict the WLF3ESN of the corn crop in the Western Lake Erie Basin, with the goal of developing policies and strategies for managing the nexus in the basin.
