Variations in NOM during floc aging: Effect of typical Al-based coagulants and different particle sizes

Junjie Yu et al.

Summary: Most studies on the interaction between coagulation and natural organic matter (NOM) focus on pollutant removal and coagulant species distribution, neglecting the study of floc aging. This study investigates the effects of aging on flocs generated by different coagulants and demonstrates that flocs absorb and release organic matter during aging. The type of coagulant and presence of nanoparticles affect the absorption and release patterns of organic matter.

Presence, behaviour and removal of selected organic micropollutants through drinking water treatment

Josep Borrull et al.

Summary: This study investigated the occurrence and removal of 60 organic micropollutants in a drinking water treatment plant, revealing that granular activated carbon and ozonation are the most efficient removal technologies. Additionally, some compounds were still not effectively removed in the finished drinking water.

Behaviour of ozone in the hybrid ozonation-coagulation (HOC) process for ibuprofen removal: Reaction selectivity and effects on coagulant hydrolysis

Xin Jin et al.

Summary: In the developed hybrid ozonation-coagulation (HOC) process, ozone preferentially reacts with OH- to generate ·OH, which enhances the removal efficiency. Additionally, synergistic reactions between ozone and the metal coagulants (SOC) start to take effect from an ozone dosage of 9.6 mg/L, leading to increased generation of abundant intermediates in the HOC process.

Coagulation-ultrafiltration integrated process for membrane fouling control: Influence of Al species and SUVA values of water

Mengjiao Yan et al.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of three Al species coagulants and their composites on the UF process for NOM pollution. Al-a was found to be effective in mitigating membrane fouling, while waters with higher SUVA values resulted in more severe fouling, which could be alleviated through pretreatment.

Coagulation behaviors of aluminum salts towards humic acid: Detailed analysis of aluminum speciation and transformation

Yanli Kong et al.

Summary: The study investigated the efficiency and mechanism of hydrolyzed Al species in the coagulation of humic acid removal. Results showed the best coagulation effect on HA removal occurred at pH 6 for three aluminum coagulants, with decreasing effectiveness in the order: PACK > AlCl3 > PACl(2). Different hydrolyzed aluminum species had diverse effects on the coagulation process, impacting floc characteristics significantly.

Stability of Oxygen Nanobubbles under Freshwater Conditions

Meryem Soyluoglu et al.

Summary: The stability of oxygen nanobubbles in water is affected by various factors under different freshwater conditions. Cations, low pH, and high SUVA254 NOM have a significant impact on the stability of oxygen NBs. Oxygen NBs were found to be more stable in softwater than in hardwater, and exhibited faster disappearance at pH 3 compared to high pH during a longer storage period.

Pre-aggregation of Al13 in optimizing coagulation for removal of humic acid

Ye Yue et al.

Summary: The study investigated the coagulation mechanism for removing humic acid (HA) using Al-13 and optimized its operation. Results showed that preformed Al(13)agg performed better than Al-13 in removing HA, due to its wider pH range and lower residual aluminum levels. The different coagulation mechanisms for Al-13 and Al(13)agg played roles in HA removal, with complexation and charge neutralization dominating for Al-13 and sweep flocculation and adsorption coagulation being the main driving forces for Al(13)agg.
