Suppression of phosphorus release from sediment using lanthanum carbonate as amendment

Yanhui Zhan et al.

Summary: Lanthanum carbonate (LC) shows good performance in removing phosphate from water, mainly through ligand exchange reaction between carbonate and phosphate to form complexes. Adding LC to sediment can significantly prevent the release of phosphorus, leading to lower concentrations of reactive soluble phosphorus in the overlying water.

Adsorption recovery of phosphate from waste streams by Ca/Mg-biochar synthesis from marble waste, calcium-rich sepiolite and bagasse

Wangde Deng et al.

Summary: Marble waste, sepiolite, and agricultural waste were used to synthesize two modified-biochar composites for phosphate removal. These composites exhibited excellent adsorption performance and can be applied as fertilizer to increase soil fertility.

Enhanced adsorption activity for phosphate removal by functional lignin-derived carbon-based adsorbent: Optimization, performance and evaluation

Gao-Jie Jiao et al.

Summary: This study reports a MgO-functionalized lignin-based bio-charcoal as an efficient adsorbent for phosphate removal, showing excellent adsorption activity and regeneration ability. The MFLC exhibits extremely high adsorption activity and removal efficiency at low phosphate concentrations, and the loading content of MgO and particle size effectively enhance its phosphate adsorption activity.

Phosphorus Binding by Lanthanum Modified Pyroaurite-like Clay: Performance and Mechanisms

Yanyang Zhang et al.

Summary: The proposal of intercalating La into Mg/Fe layered double hydroxides has successfully led to the development of a hybrid agent with significantly enhanced binding stability and capacity towards P. This hybrid agent, L-CMF-1.0, showed a high P removal efficiency and La usage in the presence of HAs and bicarbonate, outperforming the commercial agent LMB in a continuous P immobilization test. The rational design of the agent structure not only contributes to direct P uptake but also provides a flexible microenvironment to favor specific La-P interaction under complex solution chemistry, offering new insights for enhanced eutrophication control.
