Genetic variation analysis of the sigma B protein gene of novel duck reovirus in southeastern China from 2011 to 2020

Wandi Zhang et al.

Summary: The novel duck reovirus (NDRV) disease was first detected in China in 2011. This study examined the genetic variation of the sigma B protein gene in NDRV strains from southeastern China between 2011 and 2020. The findings indicate that the sigma B protein gene sequences of NDRV strains in southeastern China are highly conserved and display no significant geographic variation compared to strains from other regions of China.

Effects of duck circovirus on immune function and secondary infection of Avian Pathogenic Escherichia coli

Xiangkun Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that duck circovirus infection in the duck population in China can cause immunosuppression and secondary infection. The virus affects the development of immune organs in infected ducks and increases the pathogenicity and colonization ability of Avian Pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC).

Isolation and characterization of a naturally attenuated novel duck reovirus strain as a live vaccine candidate

Hui Yan et al.

Summary: Novel duck reovirus (NDRV) causes high morbidity in ducklings and stunted growth. The N20 strain, a naturally attenuated strain, was found to provide 100% protection against the virulent NDRV N19 infection. This makes N20 a promising live attenuated vaccine candidate.

Molecular characteristics of a novel duck circovirus subtype 1d emerging in Anhui, China

Yong Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the infection frequency of duck circovirus (DuCV) in Anhui province, China, and found that 36.2% of ducks were infected. Analysis of five DuCV genomes revealed a new subtype, DuCV-1d, and identified a consistent recombination pattern among these strains. These findings contribute to the understanding and potential control of DuCV transmission.

Summary: A novel qPCR assay was developed for simultaneous detection of DuCV-1 and DuCV-2, showing satisfactory reproducibility, sensitivity, and specificity. The assay was successfully applied in clinical field samples, making it useful for laboratory diagnosis and epidemiological field studies of DuCV.

Novel duck reovirus exhibits pathogenicity to specific pathogen-free chickens by the subcutaneous route

Kexiang Yu et al.

Summary: The pathogenicity of new duck reovirus (NDRV) to chickens was studied by inoculating 3-day-old SPF chickens with the virus. The results showed that NDRV can cause systemic infections and death in chickens, indicating that chickens may be infected with NDRV in poultry production.
