NAD meets ABA: connecting cellular metabolism and hormone signaling

Elias Feitosa-Araujo et al.

Summary: NAD is a ubiquitous metabolic coenzyme that plays a critical role in plant metabolism. Recent evidence suggests that NAD also functions in signaling and regulation, with a specific association with the plant stress hormone ABA. This relationship cannot be explained by pleiotropic interference, and further study is needed to dissect the interaction mechanisms.

Ppd-H1 integrates drought stress signals to control spike development and flowering time in barley

Leonard Gol et al.

Summary: The photoperiod response gene Ppd-H1 interacts with drought stress signals to modulate spike development in barley. Wild-type Ppd-H1 allele can mitigate the negative effects of drought on barley growth and spike development. The genetic differences in developmental response to drought are correlated with the differential down-regulation of flowering promotors in barley.

Role of Basal ABA in Plant Growth and Development

Benjamin P. Brookbank et al.

Summary: ABA plays a crucial role in regulating various aspects of plant growth and development, with both promotive and inhibitive effects depending on factors like concentrations, tissues, and environmental conditions. It influences plant growth by regulating local growth, chloroplast biogenesis, stomatal development, and other processes. Hormone crosstalk is also important in the growth and developmental processes regulated by ABA.

ABA Metabolism and Homeostasis in Seed Dormancy and Germination

Naoto Sano et al.

Summary: This review provides an overview of the role of abscisic acid (ABA) in seed development and germination, highlighting how environmental signals impact seed dormancy through hormone regulation. It also discusses the importance of regulatory factors and epigenetic mechanisms in controlling ABA metabolism gene expression, as well as the effects of natural variations in ABA metabolism genes on seed germination.

Wheat TaPUB1 protein mediates ABA response and seed development through ubiquitination

Guangqiang Zhang et al.

Summary: Abscisic acid (ABA) is a key regulator of plant growth and stress responses. The E3 ligase TaPUB1 in wheat acts as a negative regulator of the ABA signaling pathway by interacting with TaPYL4 and TaABI5, affecting seed development. TaPUB1 expression levels in wheat influence sensitivity to ABA, seed size, and yield.

DWARF53 interacts with transcription factors UB2/UB3/TSH4 to regulate maize tillering and tassel branching

Yuting Liu et al.

Summary: The study identified the maize gene ZmD53 and demonstrated its interaction with SL receptors, playing a crucial role in regulating multiple developmental processes in maize. It was also found that ZmD53 interacts with SPL transcription factors to promote tillering and forms a positive feedback loop, shedding light on the integration of SL signaling and miR156/SPL molecular module in maize development.
