Combination of a global-search method with model selection criteria for the ellipsometric data evaluation of DLC coatings

K. Dorywalski et al.

Summary: A new method for evaluating experimental data from spectroscopic ellipsometry is proposed, which combines the global-search optimization algorithm with statistical model selection criteria. This method is able to find the optical model parameters and select the optimal dielectric function model for describing the optical properties of materials even with limited initial knowledge.

On the optimization of knot allocation for B-spline parameterization of the dielectric function in spectroscopic ellipsometry data analysis

D. V. Likhachev

Summary: In this study, a simple, practical, and systematic knot placement scheme for B-splines was proposed, improving the ordinary trial-and-error technique in establishing knot spacing. The method allows for automatic or semi-automatic determination of knot locations, eliminating modeling ambiguities associated with uncertain knot vectors and enhancing the accuracy of data analysis. The performance of the proposed approach was tested in several real cases, demonstrating its effectiveness.
