Regional citrate anticoagulation versus low molecular weight heparin for CRRT in hyperlactatemia patients: A retrospective case-control study

Lu Li et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of regional citrate anticoagulation (RCA) versus low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) for continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) in hyperlactatemia patients. Results showed that RCA was superior to LMWH in terms of filter lifespan, reduced filter clotting and bleeding risk in hyperlactatemia patients.

A Comparison of the Commonly Used Surrogate Markers for Citrate Accumulation and Toxicity during Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy with Regional Citrate Anticoagulation

Summary: This study compared surrogate markers for assessing citrate accumulation or toxicity and found that the uncorrected total-to-ionized calcium ratio is superior to other markers. However, this method is still not an ideal way of assessing citrate accumulation or toxicity.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and economic impact of regional citrate anticoagulation in intensive care patients. The results showed that the transition to regional citrate anticoagulation did not improve patient outcomes and may have increased costs.

Regional citrate versus heparin anticoagulation for continuous renal replacement therapy in critically ill patients: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Rui Li et al.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy and safety of citrate and heparin in continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) for critically ill patients. The analysis showed that citrate had a longer filter life and a lower risk of bleeding and heparin-induced thrombocytopenia compared to heparin. Citrate anticoagulant therapy should be the preferred choice for CRRT in most critically ill patients.

Effects of regional citrate anticoagulation on thrombin generation, fibrinolysis and platelet function in critically ill patients receiving continuous renal replacement therapy for acute kidney injury: a prospective study

Richard Fisher et al.

Summary: This explorative prospective study aimed to investigate the effects of regional citrate anticoagulation (RCA) on thrombin generation, fibrinolysis, and platelet function in critically ill patients receiving continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). The results showed that citrate used for anticoagulation during CRRT did not affect thrombin generation, D-dimer, or platelet function. Systemic clotting parameters were consistent with intra-circuit results.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy of regional citrate anticoagulation (RCA) and systemic anticoagulation with heparin in pediatric continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT). The results showed that RCA was superior to heparin in prolonging circuit life and reducing filter clotting risk.
