On elastic clamping boundary conditions in plate models describing detaching bilayers

K. Ustinov et al.

Summary: This article derives elastic clamping boundary conditions that describe root rotations and root displacements in plate models used to analyze detaching bimaterial layers subjected to arbitrary end loadings. The technique is applicable to isotropic and orthotropic bimaterial layers of different thicknesses, regardless of extreme elastic constants and mismatch. Explicit closed form expressions for all clamping coefficients are derived, and the technique is applicable to general cases using analytical or numerical results.

Upper and Lower Bounds for the Parameters of One-Dimensional Theories for Sandwich Fracture Specimens

Roberta Massabo

Summary: This paper derives upper and lower bounds for the parameters of one-dimensional theories used in the analysis of sandwich fracture specimens by matching the energy release rate with two-dimensional elasticity solutions. The study considers the theory of a beam on an elastic foundation and modified beam theory. Results show that foundation modulus and crack length correction depend on the elastic mismatch between face sheets and core and are independent of the core thickness to a certain extent.

An analytical solution for the inverted four-point bending test in orthotropic specimens

Ilaria Monetto et al.

Summary: In the inverted four-point bending test, analytical solutions are derived for interfacial energy release rate and mode mixity angle, accurately estimating steady state propagation of cracks in orthotropic specimens. The model considers beam theories, contact forces, and friction, providing insights into factors influencing crack behavior in various mode mixity conditions.

Fracture analysis of ultra-thin coating/substrate structures with interface cracks

Yan Gu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a fracture analysis of ultra-thin coating/substrate structures with interface cracks using an advanced boundary element method. Novel special crack-tip elements are implemented to accurately compute complex interfacial stress intensity factors. By accurately evaluating nearly-singular boundary integrals, the BEM provides an accurate and robust numerical tool for interfacial crack analysis of ultra-thin coating structures.
