Additive manufacturing of functionally graded inconel 718: Effect of heat treatment and building orientation on microstructure and fatigue behaviour

Saeede Ghorbanpour et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effect of post-process heat treatments on the microstructure and fatigue crack growth behavior of functionally graded (FG) laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) Inconel 718 (IN718) superalloy. The study shows that heat treatments can enhance the damage tolerance of L-PBF IN718 to the level of wrought material. Additionally, the effect of roughness-induced crack closure is found to be dependent on the build orientation.

Microstructure and tribological properties of laser-cladded Co-Ti3SiC2 coating with Ni-based interlayer on copper alloy

Shisheng Lu et al.

Summary: The microstructure, microhardness, and tribological behavior of a Co-Ti(3)SiC(2) coating with a Ni-based interlayer on copper alloy were investigated. The results showed that the addition of Ti(3)SiC(2) increased the microhardness of the coating due to solid solution strengthening and second phase strengthening. A coating with 10 wt% Ti(3)SiC(2) exhibited the lowest friction coefficient and wear rate at 600 ℃, while a coating with 20 wt% Ti(3)SiC(2) had the highest friction coefficient and wear rate.

Microstructural evolution of laser clad Stellite 31 powder on Inconel 713 LC superalloy

Ali Khorram

Summary: In the study, nickel-based superalloy Inconel 713 LC was clad with Stellite 31 powder using pulsed Nd:YAG laser, and the influence of laser parameters on the hardness and microstructural features of the clad zones was discussed. The results showed that the clad upper zone consisted of fine coaxial grains and dendrites, the middle part had a homogeneous distribution of coaxial grains, and columnar and coaxial grains were observed at the interface. Increasing heat input resulted in a transformation of coaxial grains into columnar ones, and the formation of cobalt solid solution phase and various carbides in the cladding zone. Increasing laser frequency and pulse width led to enhanced dissolution of the substrate in the cladding zone.

The Friction and Wear Behaviours of Inconel 718 Superalloys at Elevated Temperature

Zhibiao Xu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the wear mechanisms of Inconel 718 superalloy at high temperatures, revealing differences in friction properties at different test temperatures. The increase in oxidation of the wear surface during the friction process significantly impacts the material wear. Additionally, an increase in contact load results in simultaneous increases in the thickness of the oxide layer and material wear.

Effects of Cu and WS2 addition on microstructural evolution and tribological properties of self-lubricating anti-wear coatings prepared by laser cladding

Jianhui Yuan et al.

Summary: High manganese steel components coated with NiCr/TiC or NiCr/TiC-Cu-WS2 using laser cladding technology exhibit improved hardness and wear resistance. The addition of Cu reduces wear loss, while the synergistic lubrication of Cu, CrS, and WS2 significantly enhances wear resistance. Overall, laser clad self-lubricating anti-wear coatings show promising tribological performance.

Microstructure evolution and high-temperature tribological behavior of Ti3SiC2 reinforced Ni60 composite coatings on 304 stainless steel by laser cladding

Yi-Fan Liu et al.

Summary: Composite coatings (Ni60-Ti3SiC2) prepared by laser cladding on 304 stainless steel exhibited significantly improved hardness and excellent tribological properties at high temperatures. The presence of small-sized hard phases for fine-grain and dispersion strengthening, along with the addition of Ti3SiC2 lubricant, contributed to the enhanced wear resistance and friction reduction observed.

Tribological behaviors and microstructure evolution of Inconel 718 superalloy at mid-high temperature

Zhibiao Xu et al.

Summary: The study systematically investigated the friction and wear behaviors of Inconel 718 under different conditions, showing that the applied load and test duration significantly influenced the tribological performance and microstructure evolution. Under 3N load, the main wear mechanisms changed gradually to mixed adhesive and abrasive wear, while under 5N load, the wear was dominated by adhesive and oxidative wear. The results have significance in guiding the application of Ni-based superalloys in aeroengines.
