Self-lubricating epoxy-based composite abradable seal coating eliminating adhesive transfer via hierarchical design

Yun-Qi Tong et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel epoxy-based composite abradable seal coating that eliminates adhesive transfer by changing the scraping pair from metal-to-metal to metal-to-polymer. The coating exhibits self-lubricating properties and thermal conductivity, preventing adhesive transfer during metal blade scraping.

In-situ formation of layer-like Ag2MoO4 induced by high-temperature oxidation and its effect on the self-lubricating properties of NiCoCrAlYTa/Ag/Mo coatings

Enkang Hao et al.

Summary: Ag-Mo-O ternary oxide has shown potential as a solid lubricant at high temperatures. The NiCoCrAlYTa/Ag/Mo composite coating demonstrated the best tribological properties at 800 degrees C due to the formation of Ag2MoO4 and the presence of hard particles. The environment temperature plays a crucial role in the microstructure and lubricant properties of the coating.

Influence of buffer layer on surface and tribomechanical properties of laser cladded Stellite 6

Nikhil Thawari et al.

Summary: The research found that laser cladding of Stellite 6 on SS316 substrate with a buffer layer of Inconel 625 at lower Linear Heat Inputs demonstrated excellent mechanical and microstructural properties, showing higher microhardness and finer grain microstructure. Moreover, the addition of buffer layer contributed to reduced dilution, improved microhardness, and increased wear resistance.

A low-to-high friction transition in gradient nano-grained Cu and Cu-Ag alloys

Xiang Chen et al.

Summary: A unique low-to-high friction transition is observed during unlubricated sliding in metals with a gradient nano-grained (GNG) surface layer. This transition is strongly correlated with distinct microstructural instabilities induced by vertical plastic deformation and wear-off of the stable nanograins in the subsurface layer. By increasing the GNG structural stability against grain coarsening under high loading, it is possible to postpone the initiation of low-to-high friction transitions and enhance the wear resistance in GNG metals.

Infiltration thermodynamics in wrinkle-pores of thermal sprayed coatings

Lin Dong et al.

Summary: Open pores in thermal sprayed coatings provide infiltration channels for corrosives, leading to severe substrate corrosion. By establishing a thermodynamic theory for infiltration in complex pores, this work reveals the decisive factors of infiltration depth controlled by external and internal gas pressures. Adjusting these pressures can effectively control the infiltration depth in coatings.

Significant reduction in friction and wear of a high-entropy alloy via the formation of self-organized nanolayered structure

Lu Yang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that a (CoCrFeNi)(90)Ag-10 high-entropy alloy with a low stacking fault energy (SFE) matrix and uniformly dispersed Ag precipitates shows a significant reduction in friction and wear through the spontaneous formation of nanolayered subsurface microstructure. This finding suggests a novel approach for designing high-entropy alloys that can achieve low friction and wear.

Summary: A novel process incorporating carbon nano-tubes (CNT) into WC-Co thermal spray powder has been shown to increase microhardness but decrease fracture toughness of coatings. Improved carbide retention index and wear performance were achieved by lowering process temperature and adding CNT. Tailored choice of CNT concentration offers enhanced mechanical properties for different applications.

Summary: The high entropy alloy coating AlCrFeNiW0.2Ti0.5 demonstrated excellent tribological performance sliding against different coupled materials in seawater, attributed to the formation of protective tribo-film on the worn surface, which effectively hindered direct contact between the surfaces and reduced friction coefficient and wear rate.
