Heterostructured nickel/vanadium nitrides composites for efficient electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution in neutral medium

Yuanman Ni et al.

Summary: This study reports on heterostructured nitrides composites made of Ni3N and VN, which exhibit remarkable hydrogen evolution activity and durability in a neutral medium. The Ni3N-VN composite rivals the state-of-the-art Pt/C electrocatalyst, with lower overpotential and higher current densities, attributed to its tailored electronic structures and promoted water adsorption and dissociation.

Roughness Effect of Cu on Electrocatalytic CO2 Reduction towards C2H4

Yong Jiang et al.

Summary: Electrochemical reduction of CO2 to produce valuable multi-carbon products is a promising approach for renewable energy storage. However, synthesizing Cu electrodes with a controllable electrochemical active surface area (ECSA) to understand their role in CO2 reduction remains challenging. The study reveals that the selectivity of C2H4 is proportional to the ECSA of Cu in the low ECSA range, and increasing ECSA has a negligible effect on selectivity.

Activation of nitrogen species mixed with Ar and H2S plasma for directly N-doped TMD films synthesis

Jinill Cho et al.

Summary: Among transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD), tungsten disulfide (WS2) and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) show promise as sulfides for replacing noble metals in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) due to their abundance and good catalytic activity. This research proposes a novel process for N-doped TMD synthesis using N-2 + Ar + H2S plasma, resulting in efficient N-doping of WS2 and MoS2. The N-doped TMD exhibit lower overpotentials in the HER compared to pristine MoS2 and WS2, making them suitable electrocatalysts.

Nb-doped layered FeNi phosphide nanosheets for highly efficient overall water splitting under high current densities

Shuting Wen et al.

Summary: Tri-metallic phosphide electrocatalysts, specifically the Ni12P5-Fe2P-NbP layered nanosheets, have shown exceptional catalytic performance with low overpotentials and high stability in hydrogen and oxygen evolution reactions. The catalyst, doped with Nb and prepared on nickel foam treated with DBD plasmas, also exhibits good durability and achieves high current densities at low cell voltages, outperforming many reported electrocatalysts in water electrolysis. Simulation analysis suggests that the Ni and Nb atoms in the nanostructures are key factors contributing to the catalyst's excellent performance.
