Robust solar-energy system design and optimisation for reactive distillation column in methyl acetate hydrolysis process

Hao Chen et al.

Summary: In this paper, a novel overall design procedure is proposed for a solar-energy system that simultaneously considers the solar-thermal and power-generation parts. The results show that optimizing the solar-thermal part design under real conditions can significantly reduce the total annual cost, and optimizing the performance of the SORC with toluene as the working fluid can result in a 42.05% reduction in the TAC. Additionally, with comprehensive optimization, the SORC with toluene proved to offer the best performance among three working fluid alternatives and realized the largest TAC for an SSP scheme (46.7%).

Optimization and eco-efficiency analysis of extractive distillation processes with different solvents for separating the ternary mixture embedding two azeotropes

Chao Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the separation of azeotropic mixtures embedding two azeotropes using extractive distillation with different solvents. The results showed that the extractive distillation processes with dimethyl sulfoxide or chlorobenzene as solvent can provide certain advantages in terms of eco-efficiency.
