Effect of polymer molecular weight on structure and performance of PVDF hollow fiber membranes prepared via TIPS process with co-extrusion of solvent using triple orifice spinneret

Pengfei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of PVDF molecular weight and concentration on the characteristics of hollow fiber membranes prepared using the TIPS process. It is found that choosing the appropriate polymer molecular weight and concentration is essential for obtaining a membrane with considerable water permeability stability.

One-step entrapment of a PS-PEGMA amphiphilic copolymer on the outer surface of a hollow fiber membrane via TIPS process using triple-orifice spinneret

Pengfei Zhang et al.

Summary: A powerful hydrophobic membrane modification method was developed in this study, which involves surface entrapment of an amphiphilic copolymer onto a PVDF hollow fiber membrane prepared through a thermally induced phase separation method. The preparation conditions significantly affected the membrane surface hydrophilicity, with longer air-gap distance, lower polymer concentration, and higher PS-PEGMA concentration favoring better copolymer entrapment. The one-step modification method was found to be more robust and reliable compared to conventional coating processes.

Controlling the inner surface pore and spherulite structures of PVDF hollow fiber membranes in thermally induced phase separation using triple-orifice for membrane distillation

Chuanjie Fang et al.

Summary: This study focused on controlling the inner surface structures of PVDF hollow fiber membranes for DCMD by using different bore liquids with varying compatibilities with the diluent and polymer. The compatibility of the bore liquids was found to significantly impact the inner surface pore size and spherulite structures, ultimately affecting the membrane's water vapor permeability, hydrophobicity, liquid entry pressure, salt rejection, and wetting resistance. This research provides valuable insights for selecting appropriate bore liquids to prepare high-performance hollow fiber membranes with desired inner surface structures.
