A non-specific surface area dominated catalytic ozonation with CuO modified β-MnO2 in efficient oxalic acid degradation

Lingjie Ke et al.

Summary: In this study, CuXMnT composites were prepared by hydrothermal and deposition precipitation methods, and the effects of different hydrothermal temperatures and copper doping amounts on the properties of the composites were investigated. The results showed that Cu1Mn180 exhibited excellent catalytic ozonation activity and stability, making it a promising alternative material for efficient catalytic ozonation application in water.

Novel FeII/EDDS/UV/PAA advanced oxidation process: Mechanisms and applications for naproxen degradation at neutral pH and low FeII dosage

Han Chen et al.

Summary: The study investigated the application of the integrated FEUP process for the degradation of naproxen (NAP) at neutral pH, with a four-phase conceptual process of degradation established. Superior degradation performance was achieved under low FeII dosage and neutral conditions. The effect of water matrices on NAP degradation was also evaluated, showing an inhibiting effect of Br-, HCO3-/CO32-, and humic acid (HA) while Cl- showed no influence in the FEUP process.

Enhanced complexation of humic acids: Homogenization of protonated groups in the hybrid ozonation-coagulation process

Shiyi Hu et al.

Summary: This study compared the removal efficiencies of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and UV254 between the hybrid ozonation-coagulation (HOC) and pre-ozonation-coagulation (POC) processes for humic acid (HA) at pH 5. It was found that the HOC process had higher removal efficiencies than the POC process, with pre-ozonation in the POC process increasing the binding sites of HA, while ozone in the HOC process facilitated the formation of Al-13 and increased the charge density of HA binding sites.

Nitrogen selectivity upon catalytic ozonation of ammonia with CTAB-NiO catalyst

Chen Liu et al.

Summary: The study showed that CTAB-NiO catalyst exhibited excellent performance in catalytic ozonation of ammonia in aqueous solution, efficiently converting ammonia into nitrogen gas. The pH value played a key role in the reaction outcomes, and the catalytic ozonation process was attributed to the synergistic effect between the active ingredient in CTAB-NiO catalyst and hydroxyl radicals generated by ozonolysis.

Simultaneously enhanced degradation of N, N-dimethylacetamide and reduced formation of iron sludge by an efficient electrolysis catalyzed ozone process in the presence of dissolved silicate

Zhaokun Xiong et al.

Summary: In this study, a system using dissolved silicate as the electrolyte in iron-based electrochemical techniques showed clear effluent and prevented iron sludge generation, with a higher rate of DMAC degradation compared to other systems. An inhibition film on the iron electrode surface played a key role in preventing excess corrosion and catalyzing ozone decomposition. Hydroxyl radical was identified as the dominant factor in DMAC degradation in the ECO-Na2SiO3 system.

Insights into the electro-hybrid ozonation-coagulation process-Significance of connection configurations and electrode types

Xin Jin et al.

Summary: The E-HOC process with bipolar connection (BE-HOC) demonstrated higher removal efficiency for wastewater treatment and pharmaceutical removal compared to monopolar connection (ME-HOC), with lower energy consumption. Ozone promoted polymerization reactions during coagulant hydrolysis in the E-HOC process, enhancing catalytic and coagulation performance. The BE-HOC configuration and dual-coagulant mode facilitated the formation of polymeric hydrolyzed coagulant species, along with increased center dot OH formation and active reaction sites, as observed through XPS analysis.

Effects of organic loading rate and hydraulic retention time on bioaugmentation performance to tackle ammonia inhibition in anaerobic digestion

M. L. Christou et al.

Summary: Under high ammonia levels and increased organic loading rate, successful bioaugmentation with glucose addition resulted in increased methane production in reactors with high OLR, supporting the coexistence of various methanogenic pathways. Conversely, low OLR hindered methane production by preventing the establishment of certain methanogens. The shortening of HRT had limited impact on biomethane performance due to the well-established bioaugmentation culture.
