Loose nanofiltration membranes with assembled antifouling surfaces of organophosphonic acid/Fe(III) for managing textile dyeing effluents

Xuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study successfully addressed the challenges of dye/salt fractionation and alleviating fouling propensity in the management of highly-saline textile wastewater by developing functionalized-LNMs (F-LNMs). The F-LNMs showed superior antifouling properties and significantly improved membrane permeance when treating dye and salt solutions, along with high salt permeation and acceptable dye rejection rates. The direct reuse of Na2SO4 from actual dyeing effluent was achieved, demonstrating the promising application prospects of F-LNMs in managing highly-saline textile wastewater.

Mengyang Hu et al.

Summary: The study developed a Polyethersulphone (PES)/sulfonated polysulphone (SPSf) tight ultrafiltration (TUF) membrane for the selective separation of dyes and salts. The membrane displayed high rejection for charged dyes with similar molecular weight due to the synergy between size sieving and charge effect. The rejection of dyes decreased with increasing ionic strength of feed solutions.
