Electrochemical activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) by carbon cloth anode for sulfamethoxazole degradation

Jingyi Fu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the electrochemical activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) at a carbon cloth anode for the degradation of sulfamethoxazole (SMX). It was found that higher PMS concentrations and current densities improved the degradation of SMX, with the presence of chloride ions enhancing degradation and humic acid inhibiting it. The degradation pathways were identified to include hydroxylation, cleavage of S-N bond, and oxidation of aniline group, with sulfate radical, hydroxyl radical, and singlet oxygen contributing to SMX degradation in the system.

Song Han et al.

Summary: In this study, a collaborative process for treating DMP in water was established by adding rGO-WO3 nanocomposites to a DBD plasma system. The results showed that rGO-WO3 acted as a catalyst for DMP degradation under certain conditions, and could reduce the negative impact of DMP on the environment.

Catalysis of rGO-WO3 nanocomposite for aqueous bisphenol A degradation in dielectric barrier discharge plasma oxidation process

Danni Mao et al.

Summary: In this study, rGO-WO3 nanocomposites were prepared and added into a DBDP system to investigate their catalytic effect on BPA degradation. The optimal catalytic effect was achieved at a dosage of 40 mg/L of rGO-WO3, with the highest degradation rate constant of BPA being 0.03129 min(-1). The results also showed higher TOC and COD removal rates, as well as confirmed the catalytic effect of rGO-WO3 through UV-Vis analysis.

A comprehensive insight into plasma-catalytic removal of antibiotic oxytetracycline based on graphene-TiO2-Fe3O4 nanocomposites

He Guo et al.

Summary: In this study, non-thermal plasma coupled with graphene-TiO2-Fe3O4 nanocomposites was used to promote the degradation of oxytetracycline in water. By optimizing parameters such as doping amount, catalyst dosage, peak voltage, air flow rate, and pH value, a high removal efficiency of oxytetracycline was achieved. Various analytical techniques were employed to explore the degradation process and reactive molecular dynamical simulation showed good agreement with experimental observations, providing insight into the reaction mechanisms.

Catalytic oxidation of sulfachloropyridazine by MnO2: Effects of crystalline phase and peroxide oxidants

Jianchao Ma et al.

Summary: The catalytic activation of different oxidants by MnO2 for degradation of SCP was investigated, with different crystalline phases of MnO2 showing varying effects on the catalytic ozonation of SCP. The study found that O-1(2) and ·OH were more significant for SCP degradation, with their contributions to the catalytic ozonation of SCP being 63.16% and 28.07%, respectively. The study also highlighted the importance of oxygen vacancies, specific surface area, and exposure of MnO6 edges in facilitating the activation of O-3 for O-1(2) and ·OH productions and SCP degradation.

A critical review on ozone and co-species, generation and reaction mechanisms in plasma induced by dielectric barrier discharge technologies for wastewater remediation

Emile Salomon Massima Mouele et al.

Summary: The development of cost-effective, feasible, and advanced wastewater treatment techniques are crucial for the availability and sustainability of scarce water resources. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) based on non thermal plasma processes like dielectric barrier discharges (DBDs) have shown promise in combating biologically recalcitrant organic substances in water and wastewater streams by generating in-situ UV light and reactive oxygen species. Optimization of catalyst additives and critical parameters such as pH in DBD methods can efficiently promote the decomposition and mineralization of water toxins. Double cylindrical DBD designs have been highlighted as superior to single cylindrical and conventional DBDs.
