Summary: This study reported the first application of silver-copper mixed-oxide, Ag2Cu2O3 (ACO), as a highly active catalyst for removing organic pollutants in the presence of PMS. ACO showed excellent removal efficiency, stability, and recyclability, and the synergistic effect between Cu and Ag in the bimetallic catalyst was found to contribute to its high performance.

High performance of the A-Mn2O3 nanocatalyst for persulfate activation: Degradation process of organic contaminants via singlet oxygen

Aimal Khan et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that AMn(2)O(3) nanocatalyst showed the highest efficiency in activating persulfate for degradation of organic contaminants, mainly producing singlet oxygen (O-1(2)) as the primary reactive oxygen species. Inner-sphere interactions were proposed as the mechanism for the decomposition of persulfate and subsequent generation of ROS.

Degradation of antibiotics in aqueous media using manganese nanocatalyst-activated peroxymonosulfate

Aimal Khan et al.

Summary: epsilon-MnO2 efficiently activates peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for the degradation of emerging pollutants, generating sulfate, hydroxyl, superoxide, and singlet oxygen radicals. The system is effective in a wide pH range and the degradation of pollutants is not significantly influenced by the presence of inorganic anions or natural organic matter. The proposed activation pathway involves inner-sphere interactions and electron transfer, leading to the generation of reactive oxygen species.

Understanding synergistic mechanisms of ferrous iron activated sulfite oxidation and organic polymer flocculation for enhancing wastewater sludge dewaterability

Jing Ai et al.

Summary: The study utilized Fe(II)-sulfite oxidation and polyacrylamide flocculation (F/S-PAM) treatment to remove the bound water in waste activated sludge and improve sludge dewaterability. The radicals generated by F/S could decompose EPS, releasing bound water, while PAM caused re-flocculation of disintegrated sludge flocs, enhancing sludge filterability.

Sulfite Activation by Glucose-Derived Carbon Catalysts for As(III) Oxidation: The Role of Ketonic Functional Groups and Conductivity

Yu Zhang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the efficient activation of sulfite by carbon catalysts for the oxidation of As(III), resulting in the generation of oxysulfur radicals and ultimately conversion into SO4 center dot-. Factors affecting activation performance include conductivity and ketonic functional groups. In normoxia conditions, the efficiency of the sulfite/carbon system is enhanced due to the reversible transformation cycle occurring among C=O/C-O-center dot/C-OH triads.
